Engineering Advanced Practical Apprenticeship Programme - Washington, UK pply
Job Description Engineering Advanced Practical Apprenticeship
Starting salary £12,302 pa
4 years
When you’re building, manufacturing, inspecting or repairing some of the most advanced engines in the world, the margin
for error is, quite literally, microscopic. That’s why we invest so much in training our Practical Apprentices. We provide a
salaried job and the support you need to gain nationally-recognised qualifications. More than that, with the chance to get
hands-on experience with our engines or products, we offer the sort of exciting, real-world exposure that you simply can’t
get anywhere else.
The programme
In your first year, you’ll gain a strong foundation in the practical skills you need to work on our products in our Apprentice
Academy in Derby, or with one of our approved training providers across the UK. Over the following three years, you’ll
broaden and deepen your knowledge through a range of attachments within a defined business, where you’ll work with
and be supported by some of our top engineers. Along the way, you’ll work towards completing your Apprenticeship
standard and gain relevant engineering qualifications.
You’ll be assigned a specific role to develop into which could include Fitter, Machinist, Composite Technician (Bristol Only),
Maintenance Technician, or Welder/Sheet Metal Worker/Fabricator. You’ll be offered the chance to express a preference
at application stage but we can’t guarantee you’ll be offered your preference as this will depend on the location you’re
recruited to and business need.
What you’ll do
This is hands-on work. So whether you’re producing, building or maintaining Rolls-Royce products, or are making and
maintaining the tools we need to a high standard, you’ll be making a big impact. Throughout your apprenticeship you can
expect to train on some state-of-the-art products, equipment or machinery. All while being guided and supported by
engineering experts.
What you’ll need
We’ll want to see creativity, an agile approach and a passion for practical engineering – you’ll need to be keen to get stuck
into real work in a factory-based environment. Numeracy is important, and you should be a great team player. You’ll have
to learn fast and have the discipline to balance studying for a qualification with the demands of your role. You’ll need a
minimum three GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language, plus either Engineering, Design & Technology or
Science (excluding Biology), all at grade 4 or C or above (obtained or predicted).
Beyond your qualifications, we want to see evidence that you're genuinely interested in developing a career in engineering.
For instance, we'd like to hear about how you tinker with cars, bicycles or motorbikes; or about an engineering project
you've done at school or work, or a club you've been involved with.
What you’ll get A competitive salary starting from £12,302 per year
A competitive pension, and 33 days’ holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays) Career support from day one Nationally recognised qualifications
