Dr. E. A. Farrington.

He was a Swedenborgian Christian &

member of the church of the New

Jerusalem. Refused Allopathy saying," If I must die, I

want to die a Christian.´

In his introductory lectures he has given

Drug study: For that first , analysis of drug is required. He has explained importance of drug proving.

Explained how homoeopathic medicine acts.

Drugs have power to alter the functioning. We

can know changes in the vital force only byresults, and these results are symptoms.

Objective & subjective symptoms.

The Ignatia patient nurses her sorrows,

keeping them from others.

We find Ignatia indicated in nervous womenwho are burdened with grief, particularly when

they dwell upon their troubles in secret.

We have also globus hystericus or feeling as if

a ball ere rising in the throat. This is often relieved by belching, while

drinking water causes an aggravation of the

convulsive action.

Ignatia ± by Farrington.

Ignatia

In order to obtain a proper understanding of thepower and place of *Ignatia it is necessary to get ridof two prevalent erroneous ideas. The first of theseis that *Ign. is a remedy for hysteria and nothing

Irresolution, anxious to do now this, now that.

Strong disposition to be frightened. Morose and discontented humor, and involuntaryreflections on painful and disagreeable things.

homoeopathic Medicines. Preface: ( July 1977)

Why This Book-

It is observed that some symptoms givenunder particular remedy in one MM are not

given by another. The meaning in between the lines must not

be missed.www.similima.com 39

In his MM, he included all the symptoms

given by Boger.

Simplified many of ambiguous words by

explaining their meaning.

MM presentation:

Under generalities ± Regions on which it

acts, how it acts, diseases which it is

liable, and causation.

General modalities , regional symptomswith its particular modalities follow.

He has given clues in his synoptic Key for

Moreover Boger has omitted many

important symptoms given by other

authors.

Eg: Dr. Boricke has given ³retention of

urine after operation´ under µCausticum¶.

Boger has not given this symptom. He has given ³Distention of abdomen after

operation´ under carbo animalis which is

not given by other authors.

www.similima.com 42

Dr. Boger wished to compile a concise

repertory arranged un alphabetical order

rather then regional one. In same way a concise MM , in which all

relevant symps pertaining to each remedy

are given, as desirable.

Phatak has tried to fulfill his wish.

Importance of Studying Authors

Behind every thinking they havegiven logical, scientific reasons &examples through case.

The history is filled of manyoutspoken personalities & did notworry about offending other when

they had a strong scientific base& hence proved themselves bygiving results.

The environment ,the family background, the stress, their social background hasmade the authors to think and gave birth

to monumentary work. Helps us to give meaning to thesymptoms, their interpretation & their practical utility.

The cases given by authors give us thePatho-physiological meaning to the drugs.( Clinical materia medica)
