Required tools

The following tools are required in order to follow our instructions and fix your

console.

Heat gun

Isopropyl alcohol (Acquirable from chemist)

Phillips screw driver

Flat blade screw driver or slotted torx bit.

Vacuum cleaner (preferred compressed air blower)

Guide (step by step)

We want to remind you, if your console is still under warranty - Take it back!

1. Start by removing the warranty sticker and the rubber foot that is positioned

above the hard drive.

2. Unscrew the cover plate using either a flat blade screw driver or a slotted torx

bit.

3. Now carefully slide of the plate moving it towards the left until it stops and lift it

off.

4. Remove all the screws show on the image below.

5. Carefully hinge the case towards you until it detaches, now tilt it to the left as

shown below.

6. Next we want to carefully remove the ribbon cable. Do this by lifting the back

part of the connector.

7. Now tilt the Blu-ray drive towards the right while disconnecting the power cable

and the ribbon.

8. Remove the 5 screws as well as the earth wire screw. Before removing the PSU

you will want to unplug the small BNC connector (the black wire) and remove

the tape on side of the PSU. Then lift off the PSU.

9. Remove the wide ribbon from the connector, then unscrew the 4 screws on the

Bluetooth board and remove it.

10. Next - remove the Hard drives cover.

11. Look for the blue screw on the hard drive and unscrew it. Remove the hard

drive by sliding it towards the gap in the bay.

12. Remove the hard drive. Then unscrew the 4 screws holding the bracket (on/off

& eject control panel). Remove the small ribbon and remove the whole control

panel.

13. Unscrew the next 8 screws

14. Lift enclosure out of the base.

15. Remove the black rear panel. Make sure to unclip it first.

16. Unscrew 4 more screws to remove the sprung brackets.

17. Lift of the metal cover plat while allowing ribbons to pass through gaps in theplat without damage.

18. Turn the board over and remove the fan power connector and then the fan.

19. Unscrew 2 more screws that are holding the plate to hard drive connector and

unplug the battery connector. Then remove the whole plate.

20. Make sure to clean the old compound on the heat sink from the 2 main

processors using the alcohol. Make sure everything is cleaned! (IMPORTANT!)

21. Using the compressed air or your vacuum cleaner make sure to get rid of all

dust that builds up within the consoles case. Everything MUST be completely

cleared from dust. When you have cleaned each part you will have something

like shown on the image below.

22. Now check the top metal cover plate (underside) for burn in marks.

23. Place your consoles mother board on a flat area that is resistant to heat. Then

turn on the heat gun and set the temperature to 350 degrees. The fan speed

should be set to low. Now let the gun heat up before continuing!

24.By using a circular motion hold the heat gun over areas outlined below. Make

sure that you keep the heat gun about an inch above the board!

Hold heat gun over these parts

CPU side (for about 10 to 15 seconds)

NON CPU side (for about 10 to 15 seconds)

Marked areas on the mother board see image below. (for about 10 to 15

seconds)

On the image above there is still heat sink compound - remove before blowingair!

Now leave the parts for about 15 minutes and let them cool off. If you hear strange

cracking sounds - do not worry. This is perfectly normal!

Your console is now fixed!

Putting it all together

Before we put the parts back together and enjoy our fixed console we want to go

ahead and apply the new heat sink compound on to the 2 processors. We

recommend that you follow the paste manufacturers instructions when doing this.

These instructions can be found along with the paste you bought.

The paste that we used is called AKASA 450 and it is based off of silver. You can

find this in your local PC shop.

Apply paste to both processors!

Now we are ready to reassemble the console. To do this redo our step by step

guide in reverse. Make sure that all cables are plugged in before continuing in

each step!
