Carnivals of Venice (January 17-28)

The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy. The Carnival starts 40days before Easter and ends on ShroveTuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.

During the 1970s, the Italian governmentdecided to bring back the history andculture of Venice, and used the traditionalCarnival as the centerpiece of their efforts.Today, approximately 30.000 people visitVenice for Carnivals.

In the carnival, you can see three types ofmasks, such as: Venetian carnival masks,Bauta, and Volto or Larva. These are arepresentation of people, and they aredifferentiated for the colors and style; forexample, the Venetian masks are all hand-painted using natural feathers and gems todecorate. The Bauta is the whole face, with a stubborn chin line, no mouth, andlots of "gilding“. Finally, Volto or Larva. The"Volto" was the most common mask usedin Venice for centuries. Volto means"face", and it was the simplest mask to beproduced.

Desserts are a quick snack betweenmeals or they are given to dinner. Themost important is “Dulce de Leche”;some people or Argentine cooks, saythat “Dulce de Leche” should be anational symbol for two things: first, because no one in the world preparesit like Argentineans do. And second, there is a famous legend about itsorigin: “In 1829 Juan Manuel Rosaswas visited by the Gral. Juan Lavalle,he wasn’t his friend. Rosas went outthe camp and Lavalle was tired, he fellasleep on the Rosas’s bed. Abondwoman that was preparing the“Lechada” (sugar and milk for the“mate”), didn’t like that Lavalle wassleeping in this side, so she ran off tosay that the man was sleeping, andforgot her “Lechada”, it continuedboiling, when she come back the“Lechada” had turned like brown, butit was very delicious, in this momentthe “Dulce de Leche” was born”.

“Dulce de Leche” is known as “Cajeta”in Mexico, “Manjar Blanco” in Peru,Chile and Bolivia, and “Arequipe” inColombia. You can use “Dulce deLeche” as spread on bread, pastries, cakes, crepes and cookies likealfajores.

It's a foodtraditional of the aborigines, whichhas been the livelihood of theinhabitants of this land for thousandsof years is a traditional food ofindigenous Australians, these have anancestral respect for the Earth andmother nature which airs in theirfood. The main products that makeup the bush tucker are those offeredland, without subjecting it to acts ofaggression or exploitation. Not that there is an Australian cuisine, but rather a mix of cuisines, primarilyEuropean and Asian. However, thereare Australian restaurants that areclaiming a personality, as it is the caseof those who offer Aboriginal cuisine-inspired dishes. The truth is inAustralia you eat everything: sincemany fast foods (guilty, probably, ofthe high rate of obesity and theobsession for the food fat free) toexcellent seafood, going through ahuge variety of Asian cuisine (Thai,Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese,Chinese, Korean, Indonesian...) andEuropean (mainly Italian and Greek).
