  • DRESSESAre in bold, rainbow brights, geometric prints and tropical prints.

SWEATERSCropped, oversized, layering mesh tee or sweaters over a dress or leggings. Add a sleeveless blouse or a tee-shirt.

DENIMSkinny and boyfriend jeans a new charm is snipping off the hem and letting it fray, or just cuffing up!

Wedge Sandals are makinga BIG comeback this season for many of our brands. Why do wedge sandals work for so many of us? Well first of all they help to elongate the legs which is always a bonus, and they also cleverly disguise the fact that you are in a heel by

distributing the weight evenly throughout the shoe which makes for a more comfortable ride all day long!

Did you know Orange is the New Black? We are seeing lots of different shades of orange this season which can be a very neutral color because it goes well with earth tones or adds some spice to basic black.

Not feeling Heels? No worries because dressy sneakers can be just as fun and even more comfortable on those long days on your feet. Platinum shades or cutout designs can look fabulous with a floral dress or play up your cute capris, all of which will have your feet feeling amazing during your many spring adventures.

  • So what is endive (pronounced on-deev)? Most often referred to as Belgian endive, it could be called the elegant member of the chicory family with its tightly packed leaves and smooth, elongated shape. Unlike curly endive or escarole (which are also chicories), the final growth of endive occurs indoors in the dark, contributing to its blanched color. Even the red is grown in the darkits beautiful color is the result of crossing white endive with red Treviso-style chicories.

But, no matter how you pronounce it, endive is one of the most versatile, delicious and healthy vegetables in the world. We are fortunate that the premier American endive grower, California Endive Farms, is located nearby in Rio Vista.

  • 5 Days of SmoothiesWith the right ingredients, smoothies can be a nutritious way to start the day. One Medical Group nutritionist Samantha Treyve suggests a blend of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates (PFC) to keep you satiated until your next meal. These healthful recipes feature whole fruits instead of juices and unsweetened nondairy beverages to reduce added sugar. Simply combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Juiced-Up Nutrition

Its no secret that eating plenty of fruits and vege-tables is a cornerstone of a healthy diet. But how much is "plenty"? The latest

guidelines recommend 4 cups per day (2 cups of fruit and 2 cups of vegetables) for a person with a suggested caloric intake of 2,000 calories per day. Meeting that goal can often be a challenge, especially if you're prone to grabbing a sandwich or sushi-to-go, rather than a leafy green salad. One satisfying solution: juicing. As a growing number of Americans are dis-covering, whole food juicing is an easy way to add a greater

variety of fruits and vegetables to their diets. Not used to nib-bling on kale? Try it blended with apples and pineapple for a new twist on delicious. Think a cucumber doesn't belong in a cup? Juicing it with oranges and ginger will make you think again. Thanks to an ever-ex-panding selection of juicing equipment available for home and commercial settings, whole food juicing is a trend that's here to stay. So whether you find yourself inspired after a trip to the local Farmers Market, or prefer to enjoy a specialty blend at a local juice bar, give it a whirl!

  • Ask any former or current Greenbrae resident who was there in the 1950s and 1960s about the place, and they will always talk about the fun attractions available in the neighborhood. There wasnt a theme park, but scattered across the southern part of Greenbrae at various times were a bowling alley, a large community swimming pool, a minia-ture golf course, a sailing center, a go-kart track, and even a trampoline center. Most early residents remember the Bon Air Trampoline Center, which opened in 1960 but only operated for a few years. It was right along Sir Francis Drake near the Bon Air Super, recalled Iyana Leveque. It was like a

big yard, they had big holes underneath and the trampolines were stretched so it was all at ground level. Instructors supervised the activity and taught acrobatic tricks: People were doing flips and thingsI cant believe that no one ever got hurt, its just amazing to me today.

Work started on the much-anticipated 24-lane bowling alley, cal led Greenbrae Lanes, in the summer of 1958. The Independent Journal noted that the new attraction will help solve one of Marins biggest what-to-do-after-sundown-besides-watch-TV situations that the whole family can enjoy.

When announced, the cost was estimated to be $860,000, a

tremendous amount in those days, more than half for the interior that included 24 Brunswick lanes, underground ball returns and automatic pinspotters. Greenbrae Lanes opened on March 6, 1959. The blue-roofed bowling alley was open 24 hours a day and soon featured a coffee shop, tavern and child care nursery.

Seeing that bowling up until then had largely been a mans sport, assistant manager Ron Gurries took on the task of recruiting families to come bowl and form leagues. He started an instruction program for children and women and assisted in the creation of housewives leagues, making personal calls on people in the community

to urge them to join. Within the first year of operation, bowling clubs proliferated with 280 women involved.

I had a lot of fun there, recalled Barbara Schultz. It was popular. We bowled there all the time, it was kind of an institution, recalled David Manahan. It was a fun spot, it had pinball machines, pool tables, a restaurant in front, it was just an awful lot of fun. Bowling became big then. The bowling alley remained in business into the 1970s, but closed as business waned. The area was redeveloped into Drakes Landing; Jasons Restaurant now sits on the approximate location of the bowling alley.

  • Be an Informed Jewelry BuyerSpring is here, and many people are planning summer weddings, anniversaries and overseas holidays. These events often include a jewelry purchase, and Johann Paul Jewelers offers some tips to ensure that your jewelry purchase is successful:Online Purchase

Buying diamonds online is difficult: you may look at four stones online that have the same attributes and price point, but until you actually see them, flaws may not be apparent. Flaws may not even be noticed by the consumer until the piece has been worn. While the flaw was noted on the Certificate,

without a trained eye they did not see until it was too late to return the ring. Wholesale to the Public

Buying from a company that claims to be wholesale to the public or claiming that their jewelry will appraise for twice the purchase price can be a disappointing experience. Jewelry from these establishments can seem like a deal but an appraisal reveals that the buyer paid what the piece was worth, if not many times more than its value. Overseas or High Seas

If you are making a jewelry purchase overseas or on a cruise ship, we recommend that you always buy with a credit card, never

cash. While claims of low prices or no tax may be tempting, remember: you get what you pay for. Travelers hoping to lower the price with cash and return home with very low quality goods have no recourse. The Bottom Line

A jewelry purchase should bring joy for a lifetime, so when making a significant jewelry purchase we recommend you go to a reputable jeweler who can guide you. Johann Paul Jewelers make it our mission to educate our customers so that they can make a well-informed and satisfying jewelry purchase. 272 Bon Air Center, 461-1866.
