Trams and light rail vehicles are rail-bound vehicles which operate within towns and their immediate surroundings.Regulated by: BOStrab (Germany) or equivalent regulations.

Optimising the fleet and reducing operational costs – Dresden awarded Bombardier to develop the longest tram in Europe.

Tram network: 131.3² km, 12 lines

Number of passengers: 94 million/year

In order to renew its fleet, DVB has ordered 32 Bombardier FLEXITY Classic vehicles (with 45 m the longest tram in Europe) since December 2000, operation commenced in early summer 2003. For fewer passenger volumes DVB ordered 20 shorter vehicles (30 m length) which will be delivered from 2006 onwards.

Special features of the tram system:• Steady increase in passenger volume on lines

crossing the city centre

• Special topographical requirements of the DVB network with a gradient of up to 7.69 %.
