On Friday 3rd August a campaign called „Every Action Has a Consequence‟ was launched in the town centre. The campaign is to raiseawareness around alcohol related violence after a youngman called Adam was killed inBlackburn town centre in 2009.Since this time his family have set up this campaign to raise awareness about how this issue can destroy lives. Sgt Ellis has already helped to train nearly 500 young people between 15 - 18 who are our next generation of town centre drinkers. In Victoria square today there will be people giving out information on the campaign, and all of the venues involved will have t-shirts on with the 'Every Action Has Consequences' motto. Further information on this event can be found on: www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/local/9854070.New_campaign_pulls_no_punches/?ref=rss

Safe4Summer Update Pubs and off licences have been caught selling alcohol

to children in a sting last month. Volunteers aged under 18 have visited pubs and off licences and tried to buy alcohol. Four business where caught selling alcohol to under 18‟s last month. The person caught selling the alcohol was given an £80 fixed penalty notice. Partnership Sgt Rob Knight said “ The Bolton public deserve a professional licence trade and if pubs and off licenses are serving people under age that could lead to potential anti-social behaviour: when kids are drinking it can potentially lead to problems. We are trying to educate the establishments to prevent this from occurring”.

To read more on this article it can be found in a copy of the Bolton news 2nd August print, under the headline „Shops and Pubs Caught in Sting‟.

The last month has seen the South Neighbourhood Police Team make double the arrests than is average. They are totally committed to reducing crime by disrupting offenders. In the last week we have disrupted some young offenders by conducting 2 drugs warrants on Queen Street and Brentwood Drive in Farnworth and these have resulted in arrests for possession of cannabis with intent to supply and cultivate cannabis respectively. Although we continue to focus strongly on reducing domestic burglary and particularly within Farnworth as part of Op Viking, huge progress is being made and we have now had no burglary in this area since last Saturday. Research tells us that 75% of all burglaries in the South area occur by the offender entering through the rear of properties. As such I encourage you to keep back doors and windows locked and focus crime prevention expenditure on this area of your home. The last 2 burglaries this week were through open back doors so the best thing you can do is very simply avoid complacency. Finally I really encourage you to sign up to @gmpboltonsouth on Twitter. We have put out over 300 pieces of information to our residents in the last month alone and have 200 new followers this month. I also visit the account everyday and as such if you ask a question on the site you are likely to get a prompt response direct from your local Inspector.

The Bolton West Officer‟s have been busy highlighting the issue of insecurity burglary. We have reintroduced the campaign whereby we deliver a leaflet in the shape of an arm through open windows and doors to illustrate to residents their complacency in leaving easy points of access to their home. This work is combined with conducting the quarterly police surveys and the patrols we do in hotspot areas. We have also made a very satisfying arrest of 2 brothers from Blackpool who were staying in Bolton. A burglary was committed at The Clough in Heaton where a large amount of IT equipment was stolen. Amongst the stolen property was an i-phone that had a „find my i-phone‟ application activated. This allowed us to use the phones GPS to trace it back to a particular street. Local officer knowledge led us to suspect a house and a warrant was quickly applied for. When executed the stolen property was recovered along with property from other breaks. If anyone has an i-phone or I-pad I strongly encourage them to download and activate this app as the benefits are clear. Operation Safe4Summer also continues and I am pleased to say that anti-social behaviour is 33% down on last year's summer holiday period.
