    1.1. DressageThe Dressage competitions will take place at the Club Hpico Peruano: DimensionsField of Competition: 20m x 60m (sand)Warm-Up Area: (sand)2 paddock 20m x 60m (sand)1 paddock 35m x70m (sand)

    a) Events:

    Preliminary competition -The FEI Junior Preliminary Test 2009 participation is optional.

    Team Competition -The FEI Junior Team Test 2009, in which all riders should participate, is a teamDressage Competition and the individual qualifying competition.The score will be decided by averaging the percentages, the total points obtainedby the top three competitors in each team. The winning team will be that whichobtained the highest average of percent points. The second-placed team will bethat which has the second-highest average percentage, and so on. In case of atie, the winning team will be that whose athlete with the lowest qualifying scorehas the best percentage result amongst the tying teams.

    Individual Competition: FEI Junior Individual Test 2009This Competition is the individual final and is open to all Competitors whopreviously started in the Team Competition. The percentage of both competitions,will be averaged to obtain the final score for the individual medals. A tie will bebroken by determining the highest result in the individual competition.

    b) Draws for the Starting OrderThe draws to determine the starting order for the team competition and individualcompetition (ordinary draw) are held according to the current FEI Rules, Art. 425

    c) Participationi. All competitors will participate in the Individual Competitionii. The teams will be comprised of three competitors and three horses or four

    competitors and four horses. The three best results of the participating pairswill make up the team result.

    b) Declaration of the Starting OrderA draw will take place prior to the 1st Horse Inspection to determine the nationsorder for the 1st Inspectionthis will also determine the team running order for

    competitors in the Dressage and Cross Country tests.The starters will be declared in accordance with the program and the rules. This willtake place after the competitors have inspected the Cross Country course and afterthe First Horse Inspection. The Chef dEquipe should declare in writing the starters,the starting order and, if a team has three members, which starting position willremain vacant.

    c) SubstitutionsAfter the declaration of the starting order, any change relative to the compositionof the team or of a horse that a competitor will ride should abide by the following:

    i. The substitution should be made at least one hour before the scheduled

    time that the first competitor will compete in the Dressage test.ii. If an athlete suffers an accident or becomes ill, a certificate must be

    presented by an official physician of CODEBO 2013.iii. If a horse becomes ill, or is unable to compete, a certificate/permissionmust

    be obtained by the Veterinary Commission.iv. Any horse that is to be substituted for another already declared as

    participant must have been approved at the first horse inspection.v. The Technical Delegate and the Ground Jury must approve the substitution.

    d) Scoringi. Dressage. The points given by the Judges will be converted to negative

    points, which will accumulate successively. They will be registered as thefinal score of this phase and will be published according to regulations.

    ii. Cross Country. The penalty points of the competitors in the obstacles plusthe penalties for exceeding time will be registered in order to be added to thenegative points in this phase, and the points accumulated will be publishedaccording to regulations.

    iii. In Jumping, each of the penalties in the obstacles will be added to thepenalties for exceeding time, and will be registered and accumulated in orderto obtain the final result that will determine the placing. They will be publishedaccording to regulations.

    iv. Final Individual ClassificationThe individual winner will be the athlete who obtains the lowest total of

    penalty points after adding the three competitions.

    In case of tie, the classification is decided by determining the best CrossCountry result. If the tie remains, the score will be decided in favor of thecompetitor whose Cross Country time is closest to the optimum time, withoutexceeding it. If the tie still remains, the competitor with the best score(obstacles and time) in Jumping will win. If there is still equality, theclassification will be decided in favour of the competitor with the bestpercentage score in the Dressage Test. If still tied, the final score remainsand a tie is declared..

    v. Final Team Classification

    The winning team is that with the lowest total of penalty points, obtained bythe top three positioned competitors in the team. For means of teamclassification only, any competitor who does not complete the entirecompetition will be penalized with 1,000 points.

    In the event of equality between any two or more teams, the classification willbe decided by the best combined highest three placings. e.g. a team withriders ranked individually 2nd, 8th and 12th, gives a total of 22, will beat onewith competitors ranked 1st , 7th and 15th, which totals 23.If the result is thesame number, a tie is declared.

    vi. Disqualification or Elimination

    Disqualification or elimination from any competition will be cause forelimination from the final individual classification.

    Declaration of the Starting OrderThe starting order for the first competition will be established by a draw after thetraining session during the Technical Meeting of the Chefs dEquipe and will beheld on the day before the first Jumping competition. A draw for the starting orderin the first round of the second competition will take place on the day prior to thesecond competition.

    SubstitutionsIf a competitor or horse suffers and accident or illness between the submission ofdeclarations up to one hour before the start of the first competition, it is possible toformally replace the competitor or horse by presenting a certificate from an officialphysician and/or permission from the Veterinary Commission, and after approvalfrom the Ground Jury and the Appeal Committee proving the competitor and orhorse are formally entered on the definite entries or substituted in accordancewith art. 319.2.

    Training Sessions

    The day before the first official competition, the organizing committee will hold anofficial training session on the main arena that consists of approximately eightobstacles including one combination. Each pair will be allowed a maximum of 90seconds. Dress will be informal but should include boots, breeches, shirt and ahard hat. The public may enter the competition venue and no prizes will beawarded.

    Jumping CompetitionThe Games comprises three competitions that will take place on three differentdays. The total penalties incurred by the three best placed pairs in the firstCompetition and in each round of the second Competition count towards theTeam placing and the total penalties incurred in each of the three Competitions

    count towards the Individual placing. Additional individual medals will be awardedfor the first competition (speed) and for the third competition (GP).

    a) First Competition Individual and TeamThe First Competition will judged according to Table C, (FEI Rules, Art. 239)without a jump-off in the case of equality for first place.

    i. Obstacles and Length of CourseFrom 12 to 14 obstacles that include a double and a triple or three doubles.Maximum height of 1.30m with a spread in proportion not to exceed 1.60m(1.70m for the triple bar). Optional: water jump of a maximum of 3.50m

    including the take-off element.Length of the course: minimum 500m and maximum 600m

    ii. ScoringConsult Article 325.5. for scores converted into points.

    The starting order in the First Competition for individuals and teams will bedecided by a draw in accordance with Art. 252 and will take place in theTechnical Meeting the day prior to this Competition.

    b) Second Competition Team Final Second IndividualOnly competitors and horses that participated in the First Competition mayparticipate in the Second Competition.

    The Second Competition will take place over two equal rounds, judgedaccording to Table A not against the clock, without a jump-off, and at a speedof 350 m/min.

    i. Obstacles and Length of Course

    12 to 14 obstacles, including one double and one treble or three doubles.Height 1.35 m maximum with a spread in proportion not exceeding 1.60 m(1.80 m for the triple bar). Optional: water jump of 3.50m including the take-off element.

    Length of course: minimum 500m and maximum 600m

    ii. Starting Order, First Round Individual and TeamThe starting order for the First Round of the Second Individual Competitionand the Team Final will be determined by a draw that will take place the dayprior to this competition.

    iii. Starting Order, Second Round IndividualThe starting order for individual competitors in the Second Round is setaccording to the reverse order of the aggregate penalties incurred in theFirst Qualifying Competition and in the First Round of the Second IndividualQualifying Competition.

    iv. Starting Order of the Second Round TeamsThe starting order for the teams in the Second Round is set according to thereverse order of the aggregate penalties incurred in the First QualifyingCompetition and in the First Round of the Second Qualifying TeamCompetition.

    v. Team FinalsThe winning team will be that which obtains the least number of penalties inthe first Competition, the two rounds of the Team Competition and will bedeclared Bolivarian champion. In case of equal number of penalties for first,second and/or third place there will be a jump-off against the clock in which

    all team competitors may take part, over six obstacles, which may beincreased in height and/or spread. The score in this jump-off is obtained byadding the penalties incurred by the three best pairs in each team, but in theevent of further equality of penalties, the times of these three pairs in the

    jump-off added together will decide the winning team as well as thoseplaced second or third. The score of this jump-off is only to determine theplacing of the teams and will not count towards the final scores of theindividual competitors.

    If two jumps-offs are required, the jump-off for the third place shall precedethe jump-off for the first and second place. If after the jump-off there isequality of Penalties and time for one of the first three places, the teamsconcerned will be placed equal.

    c) Third Competition Individual FinalOnly competitors and horses that completed the second Competition (bothRounds) may participate in the third Competition.

    The third Competition will consist of two different Rounds (A & B), each onejudged according to Table A, not against the clock, with a time allowed and aspeed of 350 m/min.

    i. First Round (A)Between 10 and 12 obstacles that include a double, a treble or threedoubles. Maximum height 1.40m with a spread in proportion not to exceed1.60m (1.80m for the triple bar). Water jump of 3.50 m including a take-offelement.

    Length of course: minimum 500m and maximum 600m

    The competitors will be invited to inspect the course of the Second Roundupon finishing the First Round.

    ii. Starting Order of the First Round Individual

    The starting order for the individual competitors in the First Round is setaccording to the reverse order of the aggregate penalties incurred in theFirst and Second Qualifying Competitions.

    iii. Second Round (B)

    The Second Round is a different course than the first, made up of 8 to 10obstacles that include only one combination (a double or a treble) at amaximum height of 1.40m with a spread in proportion not to exceed 1.70 m(1.90m for the triple bar).Length of course: minimum 400m and maximum 500m

    iv. Starting Order for the Second Round IndividualThe starting order for the individual competitors in the Second Round is setaccording to the reverse order of the aggregate penalties incurred in theFirst and Second Qualifying Competition plus those of the Round A of the

    Third Competition.

    v. Individual FinalThe Individual results are determined by adding the penalties of eachcompetitor in the First Competition, as well as the two rounds of the SecondCompetition (First and Second Round without taking into account thepenalties of jump-off) and the two rounds of the Third Competition.

    The competitor with the least amount of penalties will be placed first anddeclared Individual Jumping Champion of the XVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo2013 Sub Sede Lima.

    .In the event of equality for one of the first three places after Round B of thethird Competition, there will be a jump-off against the clock at a speed of350 m per minute over eight obstacles from the courses of Rounds A and B.The Competitors will be invited to inspect the jump-off course.

    If two jump-offs are required, the jump-off for the third place shall precedethe jump-off for the first place and the second place.If after the jump-off there is equality of Penalties and time for one of the firstthree places, Competitors concerned will be placed equal.

    Each NOC may enter a Chef dEquipe and a Trainer by discipline, a Treating Veterinarian

    and a groom per two horses.

    Maximum Number of Competitors

    Specifications by Discipline:

    a) Dressage. Each NOC may enter one team made up of three competitors andthree horses or four competitors and four horses. NOCs that cannot send ateam may enter one or two individual competitors, each one with one horse.Each competitor will be able to ride only one horse.

    b) Eventing. Each NOC may enter six (6) competitors and six (6) horses, (amaximum of six pairs will be authorized, 4 team and 2 individual competitorsfrom each country).

    c) Jumping. Each NOC may enter a team of minimum three (3) competitors and

    three (3) horses and a maximum of six (6) competitors and six (6) horses, ofwhich only four competitors and four horses may compete as a team.Federations that cannot send a complete team may enter one or twoindividual competitors with one horse each.

    EligibilityTo be eligible for participation in the XVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo 2013 Sub SedeLima, a competitor must comply with ODEBO Regulations, FEI rules, and must beentered by his NOC.

    Nationality of competitorsAny competitor in the XVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo 2013 Sub Sede Lima must be

    a national of the country of the NOC entering him.

    A competitors nationality is determined according to ODEBO Regulations

    Competitors may compete with horses whose owners possess a differentnationality. (FEI General Rules, Art. 139.2, 3 y 5, and Art. 118.1).

    Age of Competitors and Horsesa) Competitors must be at least sixteen (16) years old in the year of the competition

    to compete in Jumping, Dressage and Eventing.b) Horses must be at least seven (7) years of age for Jumping and Dressage andsix (6) for Eventing on the date the event begins.

    FEI RegistrationAll competitors and/or horses entered in the XVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo 2013Sub Sede Lima must be registered with the FEI and must have their documentationcomplete and updated.

    Entry by NumberEach NOCs individual and team Entry by Number forms, without specifying the namesbut indicating the number of participants in each discipline must be fully completed andreturned to CODEBO no later than midnight (local time) on Friday, August 16, 2013.The number of entries submitted for participants may not vary by more than 10% of thefinal entries, as per ODEBO Regulations.

    Entry by NameAn Entry by Name form is required for each eligible participant in the XVII Bolivarian

    Games Trujillo 2013 Sub Sede Lima. Entries by name must be completed by theappropriate NOC on the official form supplied by CODEBO and returned no later thanmidnight (local time) on Wednesday, October 16, 2013.

    Both the Entry by Number and the Entry by Name forms from each NOC must besubmitted on the official forms supplied by CODEBO in accordance with the procedurethat will be defined shortly and will be made known with due opportunity.For questions or clarification, CODEBO offers the mailbox:

    NFs are required to send to FEI a Certificate of Capability for the XVII Bolivarian Games

    The valid period to achieve the Eventing Minimum Eligibility Requirement isbetween the 01.01.2012 and the 14.10.2013

    RulesThe Equestrian competition at the XVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo 2013 Sub Sede Lima willbe held in accordance with ODEBO Statute and FEI Rules and Regulations in force at thetime. If doubts or disagreements should arise over these rules, the English version willprevail.

    Cases not covered by the rules will be resolved as follows:a) Cases of a general nature will be resolved in accordance with ODEBO Statute and

    Regulations;a) Issues of a technical nature will be resolved according to FEI Rules and Regulations.

    According to ODEBO Statute, the ODEBO Technical Committee and the FEI will beresponsible for the technical control and the direction of the Equestrian competitions at theBolivarian Games 2013.

    8.3. Protests and AppealsProtests made shall be resolved according to the FEI General Regulations. To be

    valid, all Protests and Appeals must be made in writing and accompanied by a deposit ofUS$100.

    8.4. Announcement of Resultsa) The results of each event will appear on the electronic board at the respective

    competition venue in Spanish and English.

    b) A copy of the results will be put in the panel of warnings outside the SIC in thecompetition venue.

    c) Each NOC will also have a pigeonhole where they will receive all copies of theresults and other information about the competition. These pigeonholes will belocated at the SIC in the competition venue.

    Technical Meeting

    The technical meetings for each discipline will be held as follows:- Eventing: at 09:00, November 20, 2013- Dressage: at 16:00, November 24, 2013- Jumping: . at 17:00, November 24, 2013-

    FEI Technical Delegates (and/ or President of Ground Jury) and the EquestrianCompetition Manager will preside over the meeting, which will be conducted inSpanish and English.

    Training Venues

    All venues will have security access for accredited team delegations only, andpublic access will not be allowed. The equipment at the training venues will meetFEI requirements. Details of equipment available at training venues will bereleased once FEI approval is given.

    Team Clothing and Equipment

    Clothing and equipment worn or used by competitors and other participants in theXVII Bolivarian Games Trujillo 2013 Sub Sede Lima Peru. Equestriancompetitions must comply with FEI Regulations, following the rules established inthe NOC Usage Guidelines for Manufacturer Trademark.

    Post Competition ProceduresMixed Zone

    At the conclusion of each event, competitors will be directed to leave the CompetitionArea via the Mixed Zone. The Mixed Zone is an area where the accredited media isallowed to conduct short interviews immediately after the competitors compete.Competitors must pass through the Mixed Zone to exit the Competition Area and theyare requested to cooperate and speak with members of the media. In the MixedZone, one team medical member per athlete will be permitted if necessary.

    InterviewsCompetitors placed first, second and third must proceed to the interview room for apress conference immediately after the Medal Ceremony. Simultaneous languagetranslation will be available.

    Post Event ControlPost Event Control is located near the Mixed Zone. Basketscontaining the competitors clothing and bags will be delivered here from the start areafor track competitors. Competitors accreditation passes will be returned to them atthis point and doping control escorts will complete the formal paperwork with anycompetitors who are selected for a test.

    Veterinarian Controls

    Any Veterinarians attending as either FEI Official Veterinarians or Permitted TreatingVeterinarians must be possession of a valid official FEI Vet ID card and listed with the FEIVeterinary Department, complying with the obligations of possessing such card incompliance with the FEI Veterinary Regulations 2013

    The Veterinary Examinations and Horse Inspections

    The Veterinary Examinations and Horse Inspections will be according to FEI VeterinaryRegulations 2013, and will be carried out the days consigned in the Competition Schedule;the Reinspections allowed by the regulations, if necessary, will be carried out the daysconsigned in the Competition Schedule. The place of the inspection or inspections will bein the specified areas.

    Thereafter, a third dose (referred to as the first booster) must be given within 7 monthsafter the date of administration of the second primary dose, with at least annual boostersgiven subsequently (i.e. within one year of the last dose)

    If the Horse is scheduled to take part in an FEI competition, the last booster must havebeen given within 6 months + 21 days of arrival at the FEI Event. (The 21-daywindowhas been provided to enable vaccination requirements to fit in with the competitionschedule)No vaccination shall be given within 7 days of the day of arrival at the FEI Event. 4. AllHorses that were certified as correctly vaccinated under the previous FEI equine influenzavaccination rule prior to 1st January 2005, do not need to start a primary course againprovided that they have complied with the previous rule of primary course andannual re-vaccinations and the new rule of a booster vaccination within 6months+ 21 daysof the day of arrival at the FEI Event.

    Vaccines, Administration and Certification:All proprietary equine influenza vaccines are acceptable to the FEI irrespective of the route

    vaccination should be administered according to the manufacturers instructions (i.e.intramuscular injection or intranasal)

    The details of the vaccine, serial/batch number, the date and route of administration mustbe recorded in the FEI passport. Where vaccination details are to be entered into new FEIpassports/recognition cards or duplicates, if the vaccination history of the Horse is verylong, the Veterinarian who completes the descriptive page of the passport/recognition cardmay use a specific statement to certify that the vaccinations have been administered inaccordance with FEI regulations Provided the current passport contains a statement thatthe vaccination history of t he Horse has been checked and found to be correct the lack ofinformation available on the primary vaccination course need not lead to a penalty,and a repeat primary course is not required. For Horses starting vaccinations after 1January 2005, when the first booster has not been given 7 months after the secondinjection of the primary course the Horse should receive a new primary course followed bya booster vaccination 7 months later.

    Anti-Doping Sampling For Equine Prohibited SubstancesRegular sampling is carried out in Championships and Games. The number of horsestested is to follow the effective FEI Veterinary Regulations and guidelines and be at thediscretion of the Testing Veterinarian/Veterinary Delegate in consultation with the GroundJury. Any supportive veterinary treatments may only be given with the authority of theVeterinary Commission and by veterinarians who possess an FEI Veterinarian IdentityCard. A sufficient number of designated treatment boxes will be made available.

    Official Animal Health Certification and Quarantine ArrangementsHorses entering Peru must comply with the sanitary requirements asked by the relevant

    Agricultural Ministry. Team managers and Shipping agents for horses requiring suchcertification and/or quarantine must liaise closely with the relevant authorities and theOrganising Committee in good time to ensure that horses can be quarantined withmaximal efficiency and minimum wastage of time. The clear aim should be all horses tobe quarantined over one period of minimal time on an all in all out basis with all horsesstarting quarantine at the same time. Failure to do that may result in the authorities

    extending the period of quarantine. Therefore all shippers and National Federations arerequested to work within a coordinated approach to quarantine. Horses being re-exportedto other countries, must comply with the conditions put in place to allow that. If order toensure minimal problems, such conditions must be established in good time, and shippingagents and the organizing Committee must be aware well in advance of the Games, sothat appropriate measures can be undertaken.

    InsurancesAll owners and competitors are personally responsible for damages to third parties causedby themselves, their employees, their agents or their horses. They are therefore stronglyadvised to take out third-party insurance providing full coverage for participation inequestrian events at home and abroad, and to keep the policy up to date. The FEI insuresall FEI Officials, whose names are published in the FEI Officials lists, against third partyliability including Judges, Course Designers, Technical Delegates, FEI Stewards, FEIVeterinary Delegates, Para Classifiers, Members of the Judges Supervisory Panel andFEI Coaches (FEI MCP Veterinarians are covered under a different policy): - Who are

    acting for or on behalf of the FEI as stated in the approved schedule of the Event or whoare acting in the scope and course of the FEIs Business as described in the finalapproved schedule; and - Who have received the status of FEI Officials at FEI Eventsthrough a qualification process. The FEI will NOT insure: - National officials officiating atFEI Events; and/or - FEI Officials, who have no official function at the Event.

    The insurance extended is for any liability that the FEI Official incurs to a third party, andfor the costs of defending any such claim arising as a result of actions undertaken by theFEI Official in good faith (including errors and omissions) on behalf of the FEI. However,the insurance for obvious reasons does not extend to any liabilities incurred as a result ofan FEI Officials dishonest, fraudulent, malicious, and/or illegal act. Should an FEI Officialbecome aware of an incident that he or she believes might result in a claim, that FEIOfficial should notify the FEI immediately and provide all of the facts known to the FEIOfficial. The FEI cannot guarantee the insurance coverage described above incircumstances where the FEI Official has good cause to believe that there might be aclaim and does not provide such timely notice directly to the FEI.

    1. At all stages during the preparation and training of Competition Horses, welfare musttake precedence over all other demands. a) Good Horses management Stabling, feedingand training must be compatible with good Horses management and must not compromisewelfare. Any practices which could cause physical or mental suffering, in or out ofCompetition, will not be tolerated.

    b) Training methods Horses must only undergo training that matches their physicalcapabilities and level of maturity for their respective disciplines. They must not besubjected to any training methods which are abusive or cause fear or for which they havenot been properly prepared.

    c) Farriery and tack Foot care and shoeing must be of a high standard. Tack must bedesigned and fitted to avoid the risk of pain or injury.

    d) Transport During transportation, Horses must be fully protected against injuries andother health risks. Vehicles must be safe, well ventilated, maintained to a high standard,disinfected regularly and driven by competent staff. Competent handlers must always beavailable to manage the Horses.

    e) TransitAll journeys must be planned carefully, and Horses allowed regular rest periods withaccess to food and water in line with current FEI guidelines.

    2. Horses and Competitors must be fit, competent and in good health before they areallowedto compete.

    a) Fitness and competenceParticipation in Competition must be restricted to fit Horses and Competitors of provencompetence.

    b) Health statusNo Horse showing symptoms of disease, lameness or other significant ailments or pre-existing clinical conditions should compete or continue to compete when to do so wouldCompromise its welfare. Veterinary advice must be sought whenever there is anydoubt.

    c) Doping and MedicationAbuse of doping and medication is a serious welfare issue and will not be tolerated. After

    any veterinary treatment, sufficient time must be allowed for full recovery beforeCompetition.

    d) Surgical proceduresAny surgical procedures that threaten a competing Horses welfare or the safety of otherHorses and/or Competitors must not be allowed.

    e) Pregnant/recently foaled maresMares must not compete after their fourth month of pregnancy or with foal at foot.

    f) Misuse of aidsAbuse of a Horse using natural riding aids or artificial aids (e.g. whips, spurs, etc.) will notbe tolerated.

    3. Events must not prejudice Horse welfare. a) Competition areasHorses must only be trained and compete on suitable and safe surfaces. All obstaclesmust be designed with the safety of the Horse in mind.

    b) Ground surfacesAll ground surfaces on which Horses walk, train or compete must be designed andmaintained to reduce factors that could lead to injuries. Particular attention must be paidto the preparation, composition and upkeep of surfaces.

    c) Extreme weatherCompetitions must not take place in extreme weather conditions if the welfare or safety ofthe Horse may be compromised. Provision must be made for cooling Horses quickly after

    competing.

    d) Stabling at EventsStables must be safe, hygienic, comfortable, well ventilated and of sufficient size for thetype and disposition of the Horse. Clean, good quality and appropriate feed and bedding,fresh drinking water, and washing-down water must always be available.

    e) Fitness to travel After Competition, a Horse must be fit to travel in accordance with theFEIs guidelines.

    4. Every effort must be made to ensure that Horses receive proper attention after theyhave competed and that they are treated humanely when their Competition careers are

    over.a) Veterinary treatmentVeterinary expertise must always be available at an Event. If a Horse is injured orexhausted during a Competition, the Athlete must dismount and a veterinarian must checkthe Horse.

    b) Referral centresWherever necessary, the Horse should be collected by ambulance and transported to thenearest relevant treatment centre for further assessment and therapy. Injured Horsesmust be given full supportive treatment before transport.

    c) Competition injuries

    The incidence of injuries sustained in Competition should be monitored. Ground surfaceconditions, frequency of Competitions and any other risk factors should be examinedcarefully to indicate ways to minimise injuries.

    d) EuthanasiaIf injuries are sufficiently severe the Horse may need to be euthanized by a veterinarian assoon as possible on humane grounds and with the sole aim of minimising suffering.

    e) Retirement

    Every effort should be made to ensure that Horses are treated sympathetically andhumanely when they retire from Competition.

    5. The FEI urges all those involved in equestrian sport to attain the highest possible levelsof education in their areas of expertise relevant to the care and management of theCompetition Horse. This Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse may be modifiedfrom time to time and the views of all are welcomed. Particular attention will be paid to newresearch findings and the FEI encourages further funding and support for welfare studies.
