BOLETIN BIBLIOGRAFICO

La Biblioteca de la Facultad de Medicina de Bogotá es una ins-titución de carácter científico, destinada al servicio del Profesorado, delos alumnos de la Facultad, de los profesionales en general y del per-sonal docente y alumnos de las escuelas dependientes de la Facultadde Medicina (Odontología y Farmacia},

Estará abierta todos los días no feriados y de vacaciones que esta-blece el Reglamento de la Facultad, de 10 a 12 de la mañana, 'de 21;2a 6 de la tarde y de 8 a 10 de la noche. Los sábados por la tarde ynoche no habrá servicio de Biblioteca.

Cuando se desee llevar un libro a domicilio, aparte de la papeletade petición, se consignará en la Secretaría de la Facultad un depósitosuperior al monto del valor que tenga el libro en el mercado.

Los libros llevados a domicilio deben ser devueltos en un términomáximo de diez días; pasados éstos se dispondrá del depósito parareponerlo, y el solicitante no tendrá derecho en lo sucesivo a haceruso de este servicio de la Biblioteca.

Establécese en la Biblioteca el servicio de Canjes de las obras du-plicadas. Dichos canjes deben llevar la aprobación del Director de lamisma.

Me permito devolver a usted la obra de D. Santenoise, intitulada"Pneumogastrique, Appareil thyroidien et Activité cérébrale", que us-ted se sirvió remitirme para que yo la leyera y le manifestara mi opi-nión sobre ella.

Este libro es una exposición metódica y documentada de las in-vestigaciones experimentales y clínicas conducidas por el autor sobrelas influencias efectivas que el sistema:Ilj!l'!i~!\ ~ r1f¡\ ~~da:yerrtativa

ejerce en la regularización de la actividad cerebral, y sobre la mane-ra como determinadas perturbaciones de ese mismo sistema puedenafectar la actividad funcional del cerebro y desempeñar papel impor-tante en la patogenia de ciertas psicosis.

Estudiando la hemoclásia digestiva, un suceso casual le hizo ano-tar que la leucopeuia y la inversión de la fórmula leucocitaria, que seadvierten en el estado del choque, se hacían negativas en los epilépti-cos sometidos a la acción del gardenal; que el reflej o óculo-cardíaco,manifiesto en los epilépticos, desaparecía con el gardenal, y que estereflejo, la refrigeración local, la exitación eléctrica de un nervio, eldolor y la emoción provocaban la inversión de la fórmula y tambiénuna leucopenia periférica, a veces considerable, con predominancia so-bre los polineuclares y los grandes menoneuclares. Predominando so-bre los elementos más voluminosos y directamente proporcionales a su-talla, esta leucopenia, dice el autor, posiblemente resulta de la dificul-tad circulatoria producida por la reducción del calibre de los peque-ños vasos contraídos; y, similarmente, por acción avsomotora, puede-explicarse la leucopenia periférica del choque hemoclásico y de lasotras excitaciones ya mencionadas.

Por otra parte, sus experimentos en perros y en conejos le per-miten admitir que los centros nerviosos de los individuos vagotónicosfijan más fácilmente los venenos que los de los hipovagotónicos, talvezpor una mayor actividad en los' cambios de la célula nerviosa y poruna más rápida y más fácil absorción de las substancias tóxicas. Locual le hace suponer que el nervio vago modifica la sensibilidad del'organismo a la peptona y a diversos venenos, y regulariza los cam-bios celulares nerviosos por intermedio de su influencia éxito-secreto-ria sobre el aparato; tiroidiano.

Ha demostrado además que existe un paralelismo entre la tonici-dad y la excitabilidad del vago y la tolerancia a la glucosa, y comoel páncreas es el gran regulador del metabolismo de los hidratos decarbono, se explica por ese mecanismo la acción enérgica de diversas-insulinas sobre el tono y la excitabilidad de los centros neumo-gás-tricos y la acción controladora del páncreas sobre esos centros.

De los estudios adelantados por Santenoise en la clínica de enfer-medades mentales, en varios maníacos y en algunos ansiosos, sobrelos choques vanafilácticos o anafilactoides en los estados psicopáticosrelacionados con una hiperexcitabilidad vagal considerable, ha dedu-cido que en los psicópatas las perturbaciones funcionales neuro-vege-tativas son mucho más acentuadas que en los individuos normales yque, por consecuencia, es permitido sospechar que haya alguna rela-ción entre las alteraciones funcionales neurovegetativas y la aparicióny la evolución de ciertas psicosis.

Otros resultados clínicos ha obtenido el autor: los psicópatas conhipervagotonía presentan excitación psíquica; y los hipovagotónicos,

depresión psíquica, como si hubiera determinada relación entre el tono-vagal y el dinamismo psíquico.

Por medio de la cronaxia del girus sigmoide y de la zona sensi--tivo-motriz en combinación con excitaciones secretorias del aparato ti-roidiano, ha observado que el neumogástrico interviene en la regula-rización de la excitabilidad cortical condicionando la producción y lacirculación de una hormona, y que el sistema nervioso de la vida ve-getativa influye en los cambios y en la actividad del sistema nerviosode la vida de relación.

Esta importante obra contiene las observaciones experimentales-seguidas por el autor en asocio de Cardot, Régnier, Varé, Verdier, Vi-dacovitch, Tinel y otros profesores eminentes en el Instituto experimen-tal de Vaugerard y en otros centros científicos franceses, y cuya aten-ta lectura me permito recomendar a los estudiantes de la Facultad.
