BOISE PHIL REVEALS NEW VISUAL IDENTITY BEFORE LAUNCH OF AMBITIOUS SEASON

AUGUST 10, 2018, BOISE, ID—The Boise Philharmonic rolls out their new brand and visual identity this week, as a prelaunch to the start of their masterful 2018-2019 season, which opens on September 7 and 8. The vibrant new branding reflects the ambitious plans set in place by Music Director Eric Garcia, beginning his second season with the orchestra. The new brand is infused with the tag “discover, delight, connect” and encourages new and seasoned patrons alike to “join the musical adventure!”.

From September through May, the Maestro and orchestra will present deep explorations of Beethoven, Prokofiev, Bernstein and Sibelius as part of their Classical Series, and will launch a multi-season cycle of the complete Brahms symphonies. In Music Director Garcia’s words, “We are so very thrilled to begin what promises to the Boise Phil’s best season yet. We have an incredible line up of guest performers and concerts that guarantee to exhilarate and inspire. Our new brand is a true representation of the exciting journey we have in store!”

The Boise Phil worked with Boise design house W Design and designer Kristy Wehyrich to achieve the new look and feel. The visuals employ bold colors and lively photography of the orchestra, along with a new logo that shortens the name to the more familiar “Boise Phil”.

With a new brand, new season, and new Executive Director, the organization is ready to more deep-ly connect with the Treasure Valley community via its new In Roads programming. New performances will be added to the season lineup, including solo recitals by principal musicians, collaborations with Treefort and Story Story Night, and the new three-concert Pops Series featuring the film Star Wars: A New Hope screened with the score played live by the orchestra.

Championing Living Composers

Music Director Eric Garcia thoughtfully planned the music for the 2018-2019 season, which includes pieces by three living composers. The very first piece of the opening concert, Masquerade, was written by 38-year-old Anna Clyne, a London native known for her unusual methods and dazzling inventive-ness. The orchestra will also play John Adams’ The Chairman Dances and Sean Shepherd’s Songs, the latter of which will be performed for only the second time on a concert stage.

Join us as Eric Garcia leads the Phil in a celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday! Also enjoy Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Symphony No. 5.

We celebrate the iconic and larger-than-life American composer Leonard Bernstein in his centennial year with his cherished Overture to Candide, crackling with energy and tender in tone. Based on sa-cred texts, Bernstein’s three-movement masterpiece Chichester Psalms, which will feature the Boi-se Phil Master Chorale, showcases Bernstein’s signature exuberant rhythms and haunting melodies. Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and emotional Symphony No. 5 takes us on a journey through sorrow, courage and triumph.

A program inspired by the music of nature.

Two musical interpretations of the seas remind us how powerful sound can be in creating unforgettable images of the forces of nature. Britten’s beautiful and foreboding Four Sea Interludes, extracted from his opera Peter Grimes, transports us to dawn, morning, moonlight and an unrelenting storm at sea. Debussy’s impressionistic La Mer reveals the luminous and atmospheric mysteries of the sea. Elgar’s Enigma Variations pays tribute to the composer’s wife and friends through a series of variations based

With wit and effervescence, Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony pays an affectionate homage to compos-ers of the classical period, particularly Haydn. In Prokofiev’s words, “It seemed to me that had Haydn lived to our day he would have retained his own style while accepting something of the new at the same time.” Lyrical passionate and highly technical, Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin features our superb guest soloist Simone Porter. Sibelius’ bold and expansive Symphony No. 5 elicits some of the compos-er’s most mesmerizing and inspired music.

SIMONE PORTERViolinist Simone Porter has been recognized as an emerging artist of impassioned energy, interpretive integrity, and vibrant communication. Born in 1996, Simone made her professional solo debut at age 10 with the Seattle Symphony and her international debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at age 13. In March 2015, Simone was named a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Simone’s 2016/17 season marked her Carnegie Hall Debut with the New York Youth Symphony, followed by debuts with the Pittsburgh, Minnesota, San Diego, Indianapolis, Vancouver and Edmonton sympho-nies, and return engagements with the Seattle, Nashville, and Utah Symphonies.
