The Birthday Experience: Pride of Bohol Tourism!Family Trip to Bohol, Cebu - Day 1, Day 2 & Day 3

Two weeks before this day, our family had an adventure in the very famous

Bohol province. This is Days 1, 2 & 3 of the trip, events occurred last April 1-3, 2011.Read as our story unfolds...

    Day 1

After sleeping overnight in the ship, we finally set our feet on the beautifulBohol province. Since the trip was a package deal, we waited for our tourguide/driver. While in the sea port, I realized that for an island like Bohol, there

needs are acquired by sea travel because they cannot produce all their needs.Anyways, our ride arrived and we started our land tour around Bohol.

We first ate our breakfast at a localtapsilog eatery and had a little grocery for ourconsumption for the tour. Then, we first visitedthe Blood Compact site wherein a monument

was erected to commemorate the verysignificant historical event. And a little trivia,

the site is several meters below and away fromthe actual place where the compact took place.

We then visited the smallest monkey (or monkey relative), the Tarsier! Theyare very, very cute, you cant resist touching them but touching them would be

fatal (for them, of course). According to what Ilearned, they are quite suicidal when theyexperience severe stress, and that includeshuman touch! Aside from them, there are also

other animals in the place. There are actualmonkeys on the other part of the place, andsome several rare, or not very common, animalssuch as flying lemurs. I thought that AangsMomo is just pure fiction but they are not! Thereare also Malay civet cats there.

Next destination was the also famous andpride of Bohol, the Chocolate Hills. While goingthere, we passed by the Man-made forest (Idont know why its called such, they only

planted the trees!). We took some picturesthere and the trees were very tall. According toour driver/tour guide, the trees were planted atleast 50 years ago, thats why they are now thattall. I kinda liked the ambiance of the placebecause even in full sunlight, the place is dim and cool.

We finally arrived at the viewing site of the hills. They were not chocolaty-colored that time because the weather is gloomy. Nevertheless, its still a nice view

where all you can see are hills all aroundyou. Another interesting fact to note aboutthe hills is that the hills are sort of madeup from coral deposits. According again toour driver/tour guide, several expertssurveyed the hills and concluded that thehills probably rose from the sea. I, myself, can testify to that because while climbingthe peak, the soil around the stairs is like

bleached corals, stuffed together. It wasfun and educational at the same time.

After the hills, we went to a Butterflysanctuary there where, of course, there arenumerous butterflies, coming from severalspecies. It may not sound much, but its aplace to better understand some of Godscreations. What I appreciate is that a species

of butterfly have special wings that changecolor when seen from a different angle, like asecurity seal of money. The caretakers saidthat males use these wings to attract females.

Before having lunch, we stopped by ahanging bridge. There was nothing much exceptfor the promotion of the local business of theprovince. As a Filipino, the hanging bridge is not

much of a experience because these kind ofbridges are found all over the Philippines. Maybefor a foreigner or foreign tourist, it would besomething new.

After the bridge, we ate our lunch at a floating restaurant. It was a niceexperience because aside from the eat-all-you-canfood, dining while viewing the river gives you amore pleasant and relaxing experience. We almost

finished eating when the boat reached theuppermost end of the river, and when wereturned, we stopped by some platform in the sideof the river where locals sing and dance and thecostumers can join the fun.

Full and satisfied, we went to another touristspot, where the largest captured snake in Philippines isfound. The snake is considered obese, because it is

very, very heavy (more than 200 kgs) even it is still 15 years old. The owners say that their pet is not bigbecause of the food, but because it is full of love fromthe owners.

After there, we went to the oldest church inthe Philippines. Just from the looks of the walls,

you could really tell that the church is very old. Thechurch is quite large, huge actually and there are

also many very old church things there, put up forpublic viewing. Outside, we did two pictures

wherein one had the face of the said founder of thechurch and the other shows the classic Mother andSon image.

The longest day the vacation finally over and we finally went to the place where we stay for the tour. The day was filled with numerous adventures allpacked in one day.

    Day 2

Early in the morning, we prepared ourselves and went to the beach coast where our boat awaits for our sea tour, stillpart of the package deal.

First on the sea tour list is the dolphin watching, the reason why we left very early

because the dolphins will return to the deepsea if it is already late in the morning. Wefinally reached to the place where thedolphins are currently found. Since they onlysurface when they need to breathe, the boats must be fast enough to view thedolphins jumping out of the water. After several minutes of chasing, we finally sawthe dolphins jumping, some of them are very clever, wiggling above the water asthey jump, its like they love the attention. After were done watching and chasingdolphins, we headed to another island.

While going to the island, the waves were quite big, not the usual sizebecause of the impending storm that time. Because of the size of the wave, we

sometimes get wet when the boat hits the water. When we arrived at the island, wehad to ride another boat, a smaller one,

which delivered us to the sanctuary area.Equipped with snorkels and life vest, we

jumped into the water and enjoyed the

underwater view wherein colourful fishesswimming all around you. An underwatercamera would have been very useful that

time which we unfortunately do not have.Nonetheless, we still enjoyed the beautiful underwater view.

Noon, we went back to the island, ate ourlunch and then, headed to another beautiful island, the Virgin Island. The island is not very big, nohouses just sand, and the size of the island can be

walked in 10 minutes. The beauty of the island is inthe sand. The sand was very white and very fine; it isso fine it looks like powder. There, we swam, tookpictures and ate sea urchins. 8)

We did not travel much in the sea tour as much as did in the land tour, but we spent long hours in each of the destinations. The Virgin Island was our lastdestination for the sea tour and went back to the place where we stayed.

Since that day was my mothers natal day, wetried to eat at the near restaurants. We just wantedto eat good food without sacrificing money but sincethe place is a tourist hotspot especially for foreigners, the food are very expensive compared to prices herein Mindanao. Even so, we still celebrated Mamasbirthday.

    Day 3

After the tours in Bohol, it was finally time to pack up our things, buypasalubong and go back to Cebu. Since we took the slow ship, which takes 5 hoursto travel going to Bohol, we decided that time to try the faster ship, which onlytakes 1 and half hours to reach Cebu. Since it was still early in the afternoon, we

went to SM Cebu and ate our late lunch there. My mother didnt expect that wewould finish the tour that early, so my parents tried to change the schedule of ourflights. But theres a fee for change in the flight so we decided to stay at Cebu andtry to go around the city.
