BOGOTA, CARTAGENA AND BARRANQUILLA CARNAVAL FEBRUARY 16- 23, 2020

DAY 1 BOGOTÁ – Feb 16, 2020 Arrival at the international airport and transfer to your hotel. DAY 2 BOGOTÁ (Salt Cathedral and Zipaquira)- Feb 17, 2020 Breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will take you on a tour through “La Sabana de Bogota” to the town of Zipaquira. The name means 'city of our Father' in the language of the Chibcha. In pre-Columbian times, salt around the area was the most important commodity. Salt cakes were the only currency for trading. Over time, technology improved and the Muiscas began to extract larger amounts of salt. As a result, an underground salt deposit was formed and this is where the Salt Cathedral was built, 180 meters below the surface. Inside, there is a chapel, “Capilla de los Mineros” built as a tribute to the Virgin “Our Lady of the Rosary of Guasá” (Guasá means 'mine' in Chibcha). Return to Bogotá and lodging.

DAY 3 BOGOTÁ (City tour with Monteserrate) – Feb 18, 2020 Breakfast at the hotel. Tour the historic center of Bogota with your guide. Walking tour starting at Plaza de Bolivar, the National Capitol, Casa de los Comuneros; Casa de Nariño, which is the Presidential house; and the Santa Clara Church Museum. This includes a visit to the Gold Museum, with about 34,000 pieces of metalwork from various Hispanic cultures and a visit to the House Museum Quinta de Bolivar, the house belonged to Simon Bolivar. The tour continues to the iconic symbol of Bogota, the Monserrate Hill rising up to 3,152 above sea level, to visit the sanctuary where you will find the statue of the Lord of Miracles. From there it is possible to enjoy the best view of Bogota. Afternoon at leisure. You may wish to visit the outstanding Fernando Botero Museum on your own. DAY 4 BOGOTÁ – CARTAGENA – Feb 19, 2020 Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cartagena. Transfer from International Airport Rafael Nuñez to your hotel.

DAY 5 CARTAGENA (City Tour with San Felipe Fort) - Feb 20, 2020 Breakfast at the hotel. Guided tour of Cartagena de Indias. Start with the modern neighborhoods of Bocagrande and Manga to see the contrast between modern architecture and the beauty of the historic houses. Visit the Castle where the Spaniards sought to protect the city from the attacks of the English in the seventeenth century, “El Castillo De San Felipe de Barajas” Explore the charming historic old city on foot, visiting the San Pedro Claver Church and the Emerald Museum. Return to the hotel. *Notes: Duration: approximately 3 hrs and a half. Departures from Monday to Friday at 14:00 hrs, Saturday, Sundays and National holidays at 09:00 hrs. DAY 6 CARTAGENA (“Isla Del Encanto” – Full day Tour)- Feb 21, 2020 Breakfast at hotel. Early morning tour by speedboat from Cartagena to “Isla Del Encanto”, located south of Barú, part of the National Park “Corales del Rosario”. Enjoy coral beaches and variety of fauna of the reef, ideal for relaxing and swimming. Typical lunch is included. Return to Cartagena and transfer to the hotel. DAY 7 CARTAGENA – Carnaval in Barranquilla - Feb 22, 2020 Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Barranquilla to spend a day witnessing the colorful parades at the second largest Carnaval in Latin America, an important Folkloric celebration dating back to the 19th Century filled with music, dancing, parades. After Rio, this is considered the next best, a colorful mixture of various cultures and dances. Enjoy the parade, the music and the people until your return to Cartagena. Full day trip. Drive is about 1 ½ hours each way. DAY 8 CARTAGENA- Feb 23, 2020 Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport as scheduled.
