COVID-19 Update The Texas State Bands staff has been working diligently to prepare for a return to campus this fall. Due to the evolving situation with COVID-19, we ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this ever-changing landscape. Please know that when we return to campus for face-to-face instruction, YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT. We firmly believe that we can provide a safe, rewarding, and enjoyable experience for our members, and we are proud to have you in our ranks! A number of items for the Fall 2020 Bobcat Marching Band season have already changed, and most likely more are to come. While this attached document reflects the most up-to-date information, we urge you to continue to check your Texas State email, the Texas State Band website at www.txstate.edu/bands, and our social media sites for additional information. Here are some of the most recent updates: ON-CAMPUS HOUSING - Early BMB dorm move-in in now scheduled for August 15 at 9 AM &11 AM. You will receive more info on this later via email. How do you sign up for early dorm move-in? No worries - we take care of that for you! As long as you filled out the BIF, we'll give your name to Housing Services. HOWEVER, we still want EVERYONE who is living in on-campus housing to sign up for a move-in date and arrival appointment through Housing & Residence Life in the event that our early move in is canceled. This will essentially serve as your "backup" in case our schedule needs to be altered again. PRESEASON CAMP - Will now begin August 16. Refer to the attached schedule for when and where to report. Again, we will let you know if this needs to change. UNIFORMS - We will not be wearing our traditional uniforms this year; therefore some items are no longer needed and some are now required. If you already ordered something that is no longer needed, you will receive a refund.

HAVE MORE QUESTIONS? A Zoom informational meeting and question and answer session will be held for all new members on Friday, July 17 at 6:00 PM. The Zoom login will be emailed in the near future to all students who are registered for the class or any student who has filled out the BIF. UPDATED JULY 14 Dear prospective Bobcat Marching Band Member, Greetings from San Marcos! As the director of the Bobcat Marching Band (BMB), I would like to welcome you all to a collegiate family like none other. The BMB has established an outstanding reputation at the regional and national level for its exciting, challenging, and artistic shows, as well as creating a spirited environment for Bobcat Football game days! Please take a moment to carefully go over all the material in the packet. FORMS – Several forms are required to participate in the BMB. Some of these are completed online, and some are included in this packet for you to complete any mail in prior to the first day of preseason camp.

• Band Information Form (BIF) – only available online, due August 1 • Medical Form – only available online, due August 1 • Optional Accessories Form from KKY and TBS – included in this packet. Please mail in by August 1

ORDERING REQUIRED EQUIPMENT – there is minimal required equipment for BMB, and most of it is ordered online. Please check our website at http://www.txstate.edu/bands/bands/marchingband/preseason-camp.html for more information. Orders must be placed online by August 1. PRESEASON CAMP INFORMATION – A detailed preseason camp schedule is in this packet - come prepared! Be physically ready and mentally fired-up and have all of the equipment that you need. It is important that preseason camp is the time for the band to focus on band, so you must have any administrative issues (financial aid, residence hall, registration, etc.) resolved prior to camp. If you need help, ask now. A few key details are about preseason camp are listed below:

• Early Dorm Move-in will be held on August 15 at 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM. You should report directly to your dorm. IF YOU ARE LIVING IN CAMPUS HOUSING, YOU MUST REPORT ON THIS DAY & TIME. More information will be coming via your TXST email on move-in specifics.

• BMB registration will take place on August 16 in EVANS AUDITORIUM at staggered intervals. Please wear a

mask and maintain socially-distanced seating. All members MUST check in on this day!! Woodwinds at 9:00 AM | Brass at 12:00 PM | Percussion, CG & Twirlers at 3:00 PM

• All trumpet & trombone players will have part assignment auditions on day one of preseason camp. Be prepared

to play your full range via scales and bring a short prepared piece to play. (This happens during registration – trumpet & trombone players, bring your instrument to check-in!)

• All winds and percussion will audition for spots and scholarships during the first few days of preseason camp.

More information will be available during registration. PDFs of music are available online for you to get a head start!

• All freshman & new students will attend a virtual Bobcat Preview session in the evening of August 16, as well as

asynchronous online sessions in the afternoons during the week of August 17-20.

• We will not be wearing our traditional uniforms this year. However, EVERY MEMBER MUST ORDER a ballcap, T-shirt, sweatshirt, and shorts. (Note: if you already ordered marching shoes, gloves, guard unitard, or color guard warmups, your order will be canceled, and you will be refunded.

UPDATED JULY 14 The “Pride of the Hill Country” has been supporting Bobcat Spirit for over a century. The university has recognized your contribution to our school, as the administration has pledged scholarships for every selected member of the marching band. Let’s make this year’s edition of BMB the biggest and best ever! If you have friends who will be attending Texas State this year that played in high school band, encourage them to join us! It is important that recruiting be done in a timely fashion, so their enrollment deadline will be the same as yours. Have them contact me and I’ll get them all the information they need! Finally, I ask that you all bookmark and check the Texas State Bands website often, as it will be updated throughout the summer. GREETINGS, BMB! A hearty “Welcome” to our newest members of the tradition that is the Bobcat Marching Band and a huge “Welcome Back” to all of our returning members. We are in the midst of a unique time and your involvement in the BMB will prove to be incredibly joyous and influential as you provide a significant bonding element to the community that is Texas State University. As we come off of celebrating the 100 years of the Texas State Bands, I look forward to the 2020 BMB raising the bar of excitement, spirit, leadership, and entertainment! Dr. Glaser, Mr. Holzner, and I encourage students from ALL university majors to continue their enjoyment of music on the concert stage in the fall and spring.
