November 2016 Issue
A word from the President
Things are coming together smoothly for the trails
to open again this year. We will be changing some
of our trails north of woods road. We are still work-
ing on re-routing and will let you know before the
snow flies exactly where the changes are. We just had the Halloween
party and it was great to see all of you again. We had a few new members
at the party that were members in the past and are looking to get back into
snowmobiling. Kim, as always, did a great job with all the kids games and
food. Both kids and adults had a great time. Thank you Kim!! We had
quite a few people pick up their stickers and are ready to ride. If you have
not sent in your membership be sure to do so before December 1st to get
the early bird discount. We had some great help cleaning and signing the
trails again this year. There is still more to do to get ready but, as always,
we will have it ready for Snow.
See you on the trail soon and good luck to all the deer hunters.

Trail Maintenance
We are getting closer to snow, Terry said so. We had a trail signing and clean-
ing on November 5 and 6th. I would like to thank everyone who turned out to
help. Trails are about half done at this point and are looking good for the sea-
son. There may be some slight trail changes dues to logging and other natural
factors (swampy areas) so we will try to keep you up to date and let you know
exactly where the changes are before the trails open.

Land Acquisition
Hello everyone;
Snow season is not far away so let’s all get geared up to make for a fun winter. Much planning has been done
and now the start of trail marking and trail cleanup has begun. My work as land acquisition is nearly complete
and some changes in trail routing will be necessary. Better yet, come on out and help with the work crews as
new marking is necessary and will be done as soon as possible. Rather than trying to explain all the changes
just stay on the trails, follow the markings, and there should be no problem. We are thankful for the coopera-
tion of our land owners to help us adjust for the trail re-rerouting. I hope that you will get your memberships
paid as the club needs membership dues snow or not to function and pay it’s bills, as in the past. Please don't
wait until it snows and expect to get them on the trail! Call a board member for information about the trail
work! Remember that Dec. 1st is the deadline
for saving 20 bucks on the membership.
Thank you
Larry Crandall
Safety
The snowmobile safety class this year is
scheduled for December 10th. The class will be
held at the Marshall Public Service Building
located at 900 South Marshall Street in Mar-
shall { by the railroad tracks } and
run from 9:00am to 4:00pm. There is no cost for
this class, just bring a highlighter, pencil, and
lunch . Students need to be age 12 or over this
upcoming winter. Students will receive a safety
certificate allowing them to operate their own
snowmobile on land not owned by them/parents.
Please call the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office
at 269-781-0880 to register during business hours.
This maybe the only class this season put on by the
County. Students can take the course on line at the
Michigan DNR website if they miss the class, how-
ever there is a 30.00 dollar charge once the student
gets a passing grade.
Thanks , Greg Stanley

Trail Patrol
Hope everyone is ready to go riding as the new riding season is upon us. It is very important we respect our
Landowners! Without them and their generosity of the use of their land there would be no Northside Club
Trail for us to use and enjoy. Remember that we need 4 inches of good snow and frozen ground to have our
trails open.
A lot of you know me but for those that don’t, I am one of the guys in the reflective vests you may see on
the trail. Occasionally Larry Crandall will put one on and our President Terry will too. If you see any of us
out on the trail feel free to flag us down whether you need anything or just want to say hi. Everyone on the
Board likes to talk with our club members. It is probably a good idea too for you to keep our phone num-
bers handy with you when you are riding in case you encounter any problems or see something we need to
fix. All the club member numbers are on the front of the newsletter. I don’t use Facebook but others in the
club do so you can post there if you see any issues.
Every year it seems the question of trail permits comes up. As trail patrol for the Northside I am only look-
ing for your Northside Sticker to make sure you are a member – The State of Michigan is looking for your
trail permit. Keep that in mind as you head out that the DNR can be out on our trails. They can and will
ticket you for not having it. I don’t think they were on
snowmobiles last year but they did sit at a road crossing
a couple of times to check sleds as they rode by.
Have a good time out there and remember to be courte-
ous and ride safe!!

Publicity/Newsletter
The weather is turning colder (well sort of) and the hope for a snow filled season is on my mind. I am hoping
the almanac is right so we will have ample opportunity to enjoy our trail system.
Time is growing short so make sure you check out your sleds and get your memberships in BEFORE Dec 1st
for the early bird discount. Membership forms are included in the newsletter and also on the Northside
Snowmobile Club Facebook Page and website. On the membership form is a checkbox if you would like to
opt out a paper copy that is sent in the mail. If you have access to the internet the newsletter is always posted
on Facebook or the NSC website as soon as it is finished. Plus the on-line version is always in full color! This
saves the club money on postage, paper, and printing supplies. But don't fret; If you still wish to receive your
newsletter via the mail, we can still print and mail you a copy.
Also remember your state trail permits! The State trail permit is not required by the Northside Snowmobile
Club, but is by the DNR. If they catch you without one you will get a ticket.
