A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she has lived all over the United States and abroad. She has worked for some of the top commercial architecture and design firms in Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Virginia. She is passionate about working with design students and working to advance the profession. Melissa is the ASID Virginia Chapter President and has served as the ASID National Student Advisory Council Chair, Adjunct Professor at VCU, Professional Liaison to the VCU ASID Student Chapter, as well as on the VCU Department of Interior Design Professional Advisory Board. President-Elect: Leslie Donelow, CID, ASID, LEED GA, CDT Leslie joined ASID as a student in 2007. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture. She began working at Clark Nexsen in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2012. The 2015-2016 Virginia Chapter Leaders are:

President: Melissa Moseley, CID, ASID, NCIDQ, LEED AP

Melissa is an award winning interior designer, budding yogi, mother of dogs, and lover ofcheeseburgers. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she has lived all over the UnitedStates and abroad. She has worked for some of the top commercial architecture and designfirms in Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Virginia. She is passionate about working withdesign students and working to advance the profession. Corporate, Higher Education and Hospitality projects. Prior to joining the team at ClarkNexsen, Leslie began her career at Ethan Allen in Virginia Beach and spent two years inresidential design. Leslie recently earned her Construction Document Technologistaccreditation in 2014. She has served as the Tidewater Community College ProfessionalLiaison and as Hampton Roads Regional Chair. ASID has allowed Leslie to make manyprofessional and personal connections that she will keep for many years to come.

Outside work Leslie enjoys traveling and is always planning her next trip. She enjoys stayingactive and spending time outdoors with friends, family and her dogs Maci and Mira.

Financial Director: Kelsey Kees, Allied ASID, LEED AP ID+C

Kelsey is a 2010 graduate from Virginia Tech’s Interior Design program. She was the 2008 –2009 Student Representative to the Board. During college Kelsey became a LEED AccreditedProfessional. After graduation Kelsey worked for Teresa Ko – Commercial Interiors inBlacksburg, VA were her work was in the higher education and corporate sectors. SinceSeptember 2014 she has been working for SFCS Inc. in Roanoke, VA in Senior Living design.Kelsey has also served as the IT Task Force Committee Chair, Social Media Chair and hasbeen on the committee for the Designer Silent Auction. She was the Communications Directorfrom 2013 – 2015.

In addition to design Kelsey coaches travel volleyball for NRV Juniors and serves women inNicaragua as a Marketing Director for the non-profit organization House of Hope.

She began her involvement with the Virginia Chapter of ASID as the website coordinator forfive years and is excited to move into her second year of her term as Finance Director for thechapter.

Communications Director: Carolyn Weaver, Allied ASID

Carolyn is a recent 2014 graduate of Radford University and holds a B.F.A. in Interior Designand a minor in Art. Active with ASID all throughout college, Carolyn was the StudentRepresentative to the Board during her senior year. Being a native to the mountains, Carolyn

decided to stick around the New River Valley and is currently an Associate Designer at TeresaKo – Commerical Interiors in Blacksburg, VA. Her work here includes higher education,commercial applications, and residential design. She also serves as the ASID Student AffairsCommittee Chair and the Southwest VA Region Co-Chair.

After work hours, Carolyn is a free spirited wild child. She enjoys live music, the outdoors,sightseeing, and spending time with good people.

Professional Development Director: Allison Harris, Industry Partner Rep forHaworth, CID, LEED AP

Allison graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in InteriorDesign. She currently works at Haworth as the Business Development Manager for theHampton Roads area. She started her career in Norfolk, Virginia working for Lyall Designfocusing primarily on Healthcare projects. During that time, she became active in local AIAand Habitat for Humanity chapters putting on several design competitions and events. Afterpracticing Interior Design for five years, she switched gears and started working for BentleyMills as an Account Executive for the Virginia territory. She loves the sales side of theindustry and the ability to help her clients solve their design problems. While at Bentley, shebecame involved with the ASID Student Career Day and the IDEA’s Awards Competition. Allison was recently married in June and loves to spend her time at the beach or on her boat.

Membership Director: Andy Lehman, CID, ASID

Andy joined ASID during his senior year at VCU; he graduated with a BFA in Interior Designin 2012 with Summa Cum Laude. He is still very active in the student community, frequentlyattending studio critiques and volunteering at events. Over the last couple years, he has

served on many different boards and committees for ASID; in addition to being theMembership Director he is currently a Professional Liaison for the VCU Student Chapter. AnInterior Designer by day, Andy also holds a passion for Graphic Design, spending manynights creating graphics for ASID events illuminated only by the glow of his laptop and thelyrical musings of Britney Spears. Melissa has dubbed him as the “Graphic Guru.”

This past June, Andy celebrated his 5 year anniversary at BCWH. He joined them as an internand became a full-time designer upon graduation. His work at the firm focuses primarily oneducational spaces. His close involvement with the ASID Student Members provides usefulinsight when creating new, engaging spaces in High Ed design. He has worked on an array ofprojects that foster collaboration among students, whether it be through the use of highly-specialized technology or modular furniture that accommodates a variety of activities.

When his designer hat is off, Andy enjoys spending time outdoors, staying on top of currenttechnology trends (he’s an avid follower of Apple), and looking for the best cheese pizza.

Director at Large: Jean Stepnicka, Industry Partner Rep for Haworth

Jean started her career with Haworth in April 2006. Prior to that she worked in the TidewaterVA area at an Allsteel dealership for 9 years and a Knoll dealership for 2 years. She has beenactive with ASID for the past 2 years and is now serving on the board as At-Large Director.Jean is also a member of IIDA and has served on their board as Industry Partner for fouryears. Jean is a transplant from Aurora Ohio and attended college at University of NCWilmington where she studied Business Management.

Student Rep to the Board: Heather Davis, Student ASID

Heather Davis is a student in the Interior Design program at Virginia Tech who will begraduating in May of 2016. She serves as the Treasurer for Virginia Tech’s IDEAS chapter andserves as a mentor to underclassmen. This past summer she interned at Clark Nexsen inVirginia Beach and was able to expand her knowledge on both education and governmentprojects. In addition to Interior Design, she also studies Theatre Arts & Cinema and works asa scenic and/or costume designer for various shows in the theatre department at Tech.

Outside of work and school, Heather loves to dance and play soccer. She is extremely gratefulfor the opportunity to serve as the Student Rep to the Board and is excited to see what thenext year has in store.

Chapter Administrator: Sharlyn Thacker, CID, ASID, LEED AP BD+C(Not a Board Member)

In addition to serving as Chapter Administrator, Sharlyn currently runs her own consultingbusiness, Sharlyn Thacker, ASID, LEED AP. Some of her clients include the U.S. GreenBuilding Council (USGBC), H2 Ecodesign and Community Housing Partners.

Over the years, Sharlyn has held numerous board positions within ASID including past-president of the ASID Virginia Chapter. She served on the ASID Sustainable Design Council –a six member national council. Sharlyn is a LEED Accredited Professional and serves on theSpecial Programs Working Group for Greenbuild – the USGBC’s annual conference. She ispast-chair (a position she held for three years) and a founding board member of the USGBCSouthwest Virginia Chapter. She was an inaugural member of the Radford University InteriorDesign Advisory Board. While in furniture sales, she served as president of the New RiverValley Founders Chapter of Business Network International.

Sharlyn lives in southwest Virginia with her husband and son. She loves hiking, camping,listening to live music, and spending time with her dog, Sprout. Constantly pursuing hergreen passion, Sharlyn gardens with native plants, seeks books by inspiring authors, andstrives to live green in her personal life.
