Note from the Chair

Howard Ferrucci, Disaster Support Manager from The American Red Cross spoke at our April, 2007 Bluebill meeting as mentioned in our first newsletter. We decided after his presentation to build a Bluebill Disaster team, if we can get enough volunteers.

The Bluebills are a busy group and are not always available 24 – 7. The consensus of the Eastside chapter was that if we could get 15 volunteers by June 1 to commit to the training, we would go ahead with our plan.

Howard mentioned in his presentation that it normally only takes five people to maintain a shelter each 8 hour shift. We were planning to commit to only one 8 hour shift. We now have 12 interested volunteers 3 to go! Hopefully we can schedule the short information/Q&A session with the Red Cross in June, 2007.

If you are interested but not quite ready to commit, please let us know and we’ll include you in the information session.

Wil Hamilton, a new member for the Eastside volunteered to be part of our Disaster Support Team during the meeting!! (Hope this won’t be his last meeting, we have lots of jobs available.) Thanks Wil!

Rich Dworkis, our Bellevue Community College Mock Interview lead was vacationing in Hawaii (bring some sunshine back with you!) so Ben Sakamoto agreed to facilitate the monthly project. Ben Sakamoto, Bert Goldstein, Paul Brogan, Bob Lambert and Penny Kahn interviewed the students and critiqued their resumes.

* * * * Our newest member, Claudia Strickland had a knee replacement operation. We wish her a speedy recovery!!!!!

Claudia has agreed to be our secretary AND lead the Sewing and Quilting group for the Eastside. We expect an exciting name for this group when she returns.

If you know a member needing help or a kind word, let us know.
