Overview The Bloomberg for Blackberry service is a set of Java applications designed for the Blackberry handheld device that provides access to commonly used functions found on the Bloomberg Professional. By utilizing our customer’s existing Blackberry infrastructure, Bloomberg is able to provide data transmissions that are pushed to and/or pulled from the device, resulting in regular message, news, and quote updates. Please see BERRY<GO> on your terminal for more information on functionality.

Minimum Technical Requirements The Bloomberg for Blackberry service is designed exclusively for Java-enabled Blackberry devices connecting through a customer-controlled Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).

Server Side Windows 2000 Server of higher Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) with MDS Enabled JRE 1.4 (or higher) installed on the server containing MDSGateway service.

Client Side Bloomberg Anywhere subscription Java-enabled Blackberry device with color screen Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.0 or higher

Networking Requirements Connection to the Internet. Please note: connection can not be made through the dedicated

lines (private network) that service the Bloomberg terminals. Connections will be made from the Bloomberg MDS Gateway service to Bloomberg’s

transaction server: Version 3.1 and above use address mmts.bloomberg.net on port 443 for SSL. Earlier versions and non-SSL setup use address 160.43.251.122 on port 6464

Bloomberg for Blackberry Data Flow Installation Instructions

To install Bloomberg for Blackberry, two software components are required. The Bloomberg MDS Gateway software runs as a Windows service and serves as the data link between Bloomberg’s transaction server on the Internet and the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). This software will initiate all communications between Bloomberg and a customer’s BES. Bloomberg will provide the customer their Unique Gateway ID and Password to access our transaction server. The Bloomberg MDS Gateway software is typically installed on a customer’s BES but it can also be installed on a separate server that will interface with the BES through a data network (depicted below). The Bloomberg for Blackberry Client Application is the second software component. This software is installed on the Blackberry device. This is done through the Blackberry Desktop Manager or it may be pushed directly to the device (for BES versions 4.0 and above). Alternatively, it may be downloaded via the Blackberry browser using the link, http://bbmobile.bloomberg.com/rim/all.jad. The diagram below depicts the path of communication between both software components and the Bloomberg transaction server.

* TCP port 8300 is the default Web Listen port for Blackberry Mobile Data Services. TCP port 8080 is the default for BES 4.0.

Pre-Installation Checks Mobile Data Services To verify if Mobile Data Services is enabled on a Blackberry Enterprise Server please reference the Blackberry Enterprise Server Management Console. By right clicking on a specific server the menu that appears will give options for “enabling/disabling Mobile Data Services”, “Set as MDS Push Server”, and “Mobile Data Service Properties”. For more information about enabling Mobile Data Services Please contact your Blackberry provider (Note: Settings may differ according to different versions of the BES, i.e. 4.0/4.1).

Installation Procedures Bloomberg MDS Gateway

The Bloomberg MDS Gateway component of the Bloomberg for Blackberry installation is required for each customer and will typically be installed on a customer’s Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). The Bloomberg for Blackberry solution retrieves data from the Bloomberg network via the Internet using port 443 (SSL) and not through the dedicated circuits that serve as the data connection for customer terminals. In this latest version of the Bloomberg MDS Gateway software, customers will no longer need to provide the server Public IP address or the translated IP address. Instead, they will just be given a unique password by the Installations representative, which is to be entered during the installation procedure. Once the client is ready, the Bloomberg MDS Gateway software will be installed in the customer’s environment. The server must be Windows 2000 or newer; Java Virtual Machine and Internet connectivity is also required. The installer for the Bloomberg MDS Gateway software will be sent to the customer by a Bloomberg Installation Representative, or can be downloaded from the website (www.bloomberg.com) along with the required Gateway name. Once saved to the BES, run the auto install program. The installation process will begin with the following screen: Click “Next” and continue with the installation.

The next dialogue prompts the selection of the directory to which the software will be installed. Customers are strongly encouraged to accept the default path (C:\Program Files\Bloomberg LP\MDS Gateway)

Next, supply the Gateway Name and the unique Password, as provided by the Bloomberg Installation Coordinator.

The company name and customer number will be used as an identifier for each Bloomberg MDS Gateway installation and must match our current customer database exactly. The same name and password cannot be used on another instance. The password field is used with SSL encryption and is required to allow the connection to our Transaction server. For SSL connection, we no longer require the Public or NAT’ed IP address from the client to allow on our firewall. To ensure a successful installation, it is recommended that customers be on the phone with a Bloomberg Installation Coordinator before installing this software. If the client connects through a proxy, then the Address and Port has to be entered accordingly. To ensure network connectivity between the server that Bloomberg MDS Gateway is being installed on and the Bloomberg Transaction Servers use the Test Connection button.

If a connection cannot be established between the server that Bloomberg MDS Gateway is being installed on and the Bloomberg Transaction Servers, an error dialog box will be displayed.

Ensure all entries are correct and that any network infrastructure issues with firewalls and proxies have been addressed until you achieve success with this test. Confirm that Port 443 (SSL) is enabled for outbound transmission on your own firewall.

Customers may have multiple Blackberry Enterprise Servers and all push connections to the handheld are made via the Primary BES/MDS Push Server. If the Bloomberg MDS Gateway software is installed on a server different from where the BES software resides, it is necessary to provide the IP address or Hostname of the primary BES/MDS server in order to direct communication to the BES. Multiple BES/MDS Servers may be added and tested through the following screens.

2. Enter Hostname or IP Address of BES/MDS and Port number 3. Use the Test Connection button to ensure connectivity

Note: If you have a Dedicated Push Server in a clustered BES environment you will need to select “Use a Dedicated Push Server” and enter the hostname and port of the dedicated push server for this MDS. This setting is per MDS and the dedicated push server settings can differ for environments with multiple BES clusters.

Installation Files Once the installation is complete, the default installation folder (in most cases, C:\Program files\Bloomberg LP\MDS Gateway) will populate with additional installation folders containing various files.

The config folder contains the settings you entered into the wizard. Should any of these require modification in the future, simply modify this file, save it and stop and start the service.

Note: As of version 1.1.2.2 of the Blackberry client software, the default name has been set-up in the device software for the MDSGateway. We recommend adding an entry to either the hosts file of the machine hosting BES/MDS (Standard locations C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts) or a DNS entry pointing to it. In version 1.1.2.2 it is mds, while in later versions it has been changed to bloombergmds.

An example hosts file might look like: 223.1.2.1 alpha 223.1.2.2 beta 223.1.2.3 gamma 192.168.1.1 bloombergmds #Bloomberg MDS **

The last step in the installation of the Bloomberg MDS Gateway is to activate the MDSGateway service as illustrated below.

MDSGateway Startup Type Launch the services manager from the Control Panel. Double click the Bloomberg MDSGateway service. This will launch the service dialog box. Verify the startup type is set to Automatic and start the service.

The Bloomberg MDS Gateway should now be running. Verify with the Bloomberg Installations Representative that connection is established successfully. Note: In case Authentication is required for accessing listening port of the MDS server, please change the MDSGateway service account from Local System to a user account that is Allowed access to the Push Web Service of the MDS!

Client Installation for Bloomberg for Blackberry The Bloomberg for Blackberry client installation is required for each Blackberry device. The client software (bbmm.exe) can be downloaded via DNLD <GO> from the Bloomberg terminal or from the Bloomberg website: http://about.bloomberg.com/software/info_bbm.html. Note: This step is only required if the software is loaded via desktop! It is not required for BES push and Blackberry browser installation. To proceed with the installation after downloading this software, execute bbmm.exe. It is recommended that all other applications are closed during the installation.

The default directory for the installation is C:\Program Files\Bloomberg Mobile. Customers are strongly encouraged to accept the default directory. Press Next to proceed with the installation.

Blackberry Desktop Manager Once the application is installed on the user’s PC, launch the Blackberry Desktop Manager with the Blackberry device docked in the cradle (For later models of Blackberry, use Desktop Manager 4.0 or above). From the Blackberry Desktop Manager select and run the Application Loader.

This will launch the Application Loader Wizard. Select Next to proceed.

The next step will display an interface listing applications that can be loaded or removed on the Blackberry unit. Select the Bloomberg application and click Add.

A window will launch that will allow users to navigate to the Bloomberg client: Bloomberg.alx. This file is located in the directory selected for the initial installation: C:\Program Files\Bloomberg Mobile. Once the file is selected, select Open to proceed.

Bloomberg will now be listed as a default option in the Application Loader Wizard. Click Next to finish loading the Bloomberg client on to the Blackberry unit.

Bloomberg Icons on Blackberry Device Bloomberg icons will now appear on the top left of the main menu of the Blackberry device. (On other models these icons may appear in the Applications folder)

The user will see a login prompt when a Bloomberg icon is selected. The login is the user’s Bloomberg username and password, not the Blackberry username and password.

In the event the user is connected to BES version 4.0, or if the Bloomberg MDS Gateway software was installed on a server other than the BES, one configuration change to the client application will need to be made. Click on the scroll wheel to bring up the following menu.

Select Settings to view the Transport setting for the Bloomberg for Blackberry Client Application.

Note the last line: Server:Port bloombergmds:4444. The “Server” part reflects the settings in the hosts file used for name lookup. The “Port” part is the port number assigned to the MDS Gateway Server (this is the value set to MDSGateway.LPORT in mdsgateway.properties file, by default
