5 Million blood transfusions are given each year

Blood Transfusion: Taking blood from one living thing

and injecting it into the bloodstream of another.

It makes red blood cells clump and explode

Finding A Date

• LifeSouth was completely booked for every weekend until April!

Making The Flyers

Once we had a set location and time I was able to get the flyers made and hand out!

Flyers were put on mailboxes, posted on twitter and Facebook

Late Arrival Once we were set up we could start accepting donors

Many donors did not qualify!

Due to:Medications Tattoos Iron Deficiency

Advertisement brought walk-ins

Donors were prepped by LifeSouth employees

They decided which arm was best

The Time Has Come!

Sterilized the area

Placed a tourniquet to increase pressure

Carefully insert the needle into vein to start the flow of blood

Almost Done

• After approximately 5 to 20 minutes the bags were filled

The whole donation process took about 45 minutes, a small price to pay for another’s life!

Time To Pack Up

• Blood bags are specially insulted so that the blood can last up to 6 hours with out being chilled

What Happens Next

• Processing lab (this is where the blood type is determined and broken into 3 parts)

• Red Blood cells (used for trauma)• Platelets (used for blood clots)• Plasma ( used for shock or burns)

Why I Chose A Blood Drive

• My desire to help the community

• A person can give blood every 2 months
