Bling it on! using a stamp sheet with polymer clay Before you start These stamp sheets are rubber, so polymer will stick to them – use a release (like a mist of water or some powder) to prevent the clay from sticking and clean them off when youʼre done with soap and water. Hereʼs a Fun Project to get you Started using your Stamps! 1. Use a spray bottle to lightly mist the surface of a stamp image with water. 2. Roll out a ball of clay and flatten it with your hand into a pancake. 3. Press the clay onto the surface of the stamp sheet firmly (donʼt wiggle it around or youʼll get a double image!). 4. Immediately peel the clay off the stamp. Let the excess water dry off (or use a tissue to lightly blot it). 5. With your fingertip, swipe mica powders over the top of the clay to highlight the design. Nifty, huh?! 6. Add some glass crystals (the flat-back, hot-fix ones are the best because they glue themselves right into the clay). 7. Bake it! Preheat your oven to 275ºF (130ºC) or according to your clay instructions. Bake on a piece of clean, stiff paper for 30-45 minutes. Make sure your area is well ventilated. Once baked, let it cool completely. Properly baked polymer can be flexible if the piece is thin, so donʼt worry if itʼs bendy! Itʼs all good. 8. To display, glue a magnet on the back and stick it somewhere fun! To wear, glue a bail on the back, or drill a hole in the clay with a handheld drill and string it up. Glue a pinback to wear it as a brooch. Or hey! donʼt do anything to it, and use it as a cabochon for bead embroidery. ©2014 Christi Friesen Feel free to share this handout with all your friends!
