Head StylesDome HeadThe Dome Head blind rivet is themost widely available and com-monly used head style. The domehead flange offers good bearing surface and is suitable for many applications.

Large FlangeThe Large Flange blind rivet offers alarger bearing surface than theDome Head and is suited for joiningthin, compressible or brittle materi-als to structural members, i.e.wood/steel, plastic/steel.

Countersunk Head The Countersunk Head blind rivetis used in applications requiring aflush surface.

Material CompatibilityThe blind rivet selected should be compatible withthe materials being joined. Dissimilar materialscan cause failure due to galvanic corrosion.

SFS intec advises the use of corrosion resistantrivets made of aluminum or stainless steel. Steelrivets are available for interior applications orwhere conditions will not cause corrosion. ContactSFS intec if assistance is required.

Strength RequirementsThe joint strength required will determine the diameter and spacing of the blind rivets.

Material ThicknessEach blind rivet is engineered for a specific rangeof material thickness for which it will be effective.This range of material or work thickness is theblind rivets grip range.

Hole SizeProper hole size is important to ensure the in-tegrity of the fastened joint. The recommendedhole size and tolerances are shown in the technical data charts.

BULB-TITE Rivets

BULB-TITE rivets were first developed to solve application requirements in the Pre-Engineered Metal Building industry. Since that time, the BULB-TITE product line has been expanded to meet application requirements in a widerange of industries. The BULB-TITE rivet body folds into three separate legs forming a large blind-side head. Thislarge bearing head evenly distributes the BULB-TITEs clamp force in soft, thin or brittle materials while providinghigh pull-through resistance. The wide grip range enables a single rivet to work in a greater variation of thicknesses.Special installation tool nosepieces are required for proper installation performance. See chart on page 13.

Aluminum Rivet/Aluminum Mandrel

The MEGA GRIP is a high strength structural blind rivet offering several advantages over conventional blind rivets. MEGA GRIPs wide grip range enables a single MEGA GRIP to replace up to five different lengths of standard rivets. High shear strength is achieved by MEGA GRIPs flush break self plugging mandrel. MEGA GRIPrivets are hole-filling, resulting in tighter joints and improved sealing for weather resistance. MEGA GRIP rivets areinstalled via standard rivet tools and do not require special nose tips. Steel/Steel MEGA GRIP rivets available upon special request.

Note: Above values are shown as a guide only and may vary depending upon applications. Shear and tensile strength tests were conducted in hard-ened alloy steel with a thickness equal to the fastener diameter. Strength values measured in nominal grip.
