Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for You.

Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service without asking why and to what

purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in Your presence and to be consumed in the light and warmth of our Love. Please hear my prayer

and, if it is Your will, grant my petition. But above all, make me loyal and faithful to You in

all circumstances of my life. Amen.

A NEW DAY DAWNS Today we hear how Jonah, sent by God to warn the people, storms through the streets of Nineveh, scaring the citizens out of their wits. And it works! God has a change of heart, seeing “by their actions” how the peo-ple turn from evil (Jonah 3:10). A new day dawns. Next we hear Paul telling the Corinthians, “The world in its present form is passing away” (1 Corinthi-ans 7:31). He calls for a change of heart. Stopping short of telling them to stop carrying out their everyday activ-ities, he urges them—rather mysteriously—to live “as though” they aren’t doing the things they are doing. A new day has dawned. Finally, Jesus stands on the shore and cries, “The kingdom of God is at hand!” (Mark 1:14). Simon and Andrew abandon their nets—and even their father—and follow him. A new day had dawned. Everyone has to change when a new day dawns: the Ninevites, the Corinthians, the apostles, even Jesus! Didn’t a new day dawn today for us as well? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are Present in the Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things and I desire You in my soul.

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually

into my heart. As though You were already there, I embrace You and unite myself wholly to You; permit not that I

should ever be separated from You.

Amen.

DEACON TIM’S BOOK & MOVIE REVIEW FROM DEACON DAN’S DESK

LET GO If you want to be healthy morally, mentally and physically this year, just LET GO.

LET GO of the little annoyance of everyday life, the irritations and the petty vexations that cross your path daily. Don’t take them up, nurse them, pet them, brood over them. They are not worthwhile. LET THEM GO.

That little hurt you got from your friend. Perhaps it wasn’t intended, perhaps is was, but never mind, LET IT GO. Refuse to think about it.

LET GO that feeling of hatred you have for anoth-er, the jealousy, the envy, the malice, LET GO all such thoughts. Sweep them out of your mind, and you will be surprised what a cleansing and rejuve-nating effect it will have upon you, both physically and mentally. LET THEM GO, you house them at a deadly risk.

But the big troubles, the bitter disappointments, the deep wrongs, and the heart breaking sorrows, trage-dies of life, what about them? Why just LET THEM GO, too. Drop them, softly maybe, but surely. Put away all regret and bitterness, and let sorrow be only a softening influence. Yes, LET THEM GO, too, and make the most of the future.

Then, that little pet ailment you have been hanging on to and talking about; LET IT GO. Talk about health instead, and health will come. Quit nursing that pet ailment, and LET IT GO.

It is not hard once you get used to the habit of it - LETTING GO of these things. You will find it such an easy way to get rid of the things that mar and embitter life that you will enjoy LETTING THEM GO. You will find the world such a beauti-ful place. You will find it beautiful because you will be free to enjoy it - Free in mind and body.

Learn to LET GO - as you value health of body and peace of mind. LET GO - just simply LET GO.

The greatest factor in helping us to LET GO is to see with the eye of Faith that GOD permits - if He does not will these - daily, nay hourly annoyances. If we look at them in the light of eternity, we shall profit by them in this life and in the life to come.

LET GO, LET GO, LET GO. Wise ones adjust themselves to this universe over which GOD rules with infinite wisdom and infinite love. It is the first condition of sanity and sanctity to believe it. YOU CAN BANK ON GOD - LET GO

To GOD be the glory, Deacon Dan

My review for this week is the DVD "The Stations of the Cross" with Bishop Don-ald W. Wuerl. Of course, this was origi-nally a videotape when it was first released, but they have since made it into a DVD and

it is still available on most online sites for purchase. The commentary by our former Bishop Wuerl and the reflections and prayers offered at each station are thoughtful and inspiring. In addition, the Stations of the Cross that are shown on this DVD are the exquisite, large and lifelike Stations of the Cross from St. Anthony's Chapel, which is located on Pittsburgh's North Side. This video gives a good representation of each statue from the Stations of the Cross at St. Anthony's Chapel, but if you have never been there to visit, please do yourself a favor and go there. To see the statues for each of the Stations in person is in itself a deep and spir-itual experience. St. Anthony's Chapel also is home to the largest collection of Christian relics in the world outside of the Vatican. With Lent quickly approaching, this DVD would be an excellent one to watch as a reminder of our Lord's suffering, death and resurrection. But you don't have to wait for Lent to reflect on the PRICE that Jesus paid for me, for you and the whole world. Because of the touching reflections at each Sta-tion, and the breathtaking images from each Station, I humbly give this DVD Five Beards out of Five Beards. Again, if you have never been to St. Anthony's Chapel, go as soon as possible. You will thank me for the suggestion. Deacon Tim -Live Jesus in our hearts... Forever!

Love Truly Wins

As my wife and I stroll through Target or TJ Maxx, we usually stumble upon the aisle with all of the decora-tive signs that read different things like, “PRAY”, “Life is good”, or “Grateful hearts gather here”.

There is one sign though that has caught my eye and truly speaks volumes to me. The sign reads, “Love Wins”. These big cursive letters mean something. Since God is love the sign really says, “God Wins”, and that is so true.

When we are struggling, God wins. When we have a heavy heart, God wins. When we are happy, God wins. God loves you and He takes delight in you.

In Psalm 18:19 it says, “He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.”

So, as a reminder today, tomorrow, and always when you are faced with adversity remember that Love wins, and God wins!

The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. — Mark 1:15

When I was a child my family recited this prayer to Saint Joseph after the Rosary. I named my new born Josephine because since she was conceived I called upon St. Joseph for his protection.

The prayer to St. Joseph, the foster-father of Jesus, dates back almost as far as 50 A.D.! Even though he came from King David’s noble ancestry, St. Joseph lived a life of great humility and adoration to his Holy Family as a carpenter.

St Joseph and Infant Jesus Matthew’s gospel characterizes him as a “just man” (1:19). He is the patron saint of the Universal Church, and people call upon his aid for workers, fami-lies, home buyers and sellers, and the grace of a happy death, among other requests. St. Thomas Aquinas once noted that St. Joseph is unique among patron saints in that he is able to assist us at any time for anything. This prayer is among the earliest invocations to St. Jo-seph, and also one of the best known.

The Prayer to St. Joseph Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

Oh St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your di-vine son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss his fine head for me, and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen
