STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK
In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May
we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, “Here am I,
Lord; I come to do your will.”

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Christian stewardship begins with the call to discipleship and in today’s Gospel we discover those first individuals who sought out Jesus and wanted to listen to him, learn from him and stay with him. Today, Christian stewards search out the hidden presence of Jesus in their own lives every day. They know Christ is the “Messiah” who will one day bring about a perfect restoration to a troubled world. They further understand that they are sacraments of his hidden presence in the world. Their task is to make that reality known through their own words and actions. What is one thing we can do to be better stewards of Christ’s life in us?
Our readings today focus on the vital attributes of being a disciple of Christ.
The Gospel of John portrays these attributes as he bears witness to Jesus’ first disciples. Upon seeing Jesus, John
proclaims, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The lamb is a reference to the Jewish sacrificial offering at Passover and
reveals Jesus as Savior. Once the two that were with John heard this, they immediately followed Jesus. Jesus
turned to them and asked, “What are you looking for?” They responded with, “Rabbi, where are you staying?”
Imagine Jesus asking you, “What are you looking for?" We might respond with answers like a better job, more kids,
retirement, or any number of things that we think will make our lives better. The things we seek may be righteous,
but as disciples of Christ, we should first and foremost seek the Kingdom of God. If we strive to respond to Jesus’
question in the same way the first disciples responded, essentially by asking, “Where are you, Lord?” then we will
not be disappointed with the outcome.
Our story of Jesus’ first disciples concludes with Andrew intentionally sharing the Good News
of Christ to his brother Simon Peter. Andrew had the gift of meeting the Lord and did not
hoard it to himself. Instead, he sought his brother and proclaimed what he had experienced,
which serves as a reminder for us. Our calling is to be missionary disciples — to seek the
Lord and share what we have found. Our faith is a gift! We should strive to share this gift with
others.

SPACE AVAILABLE!!
Bulletin Ads are arranged through our Parish
Office. Call Melinda at 629.8092 if you would
like to place an ad or just to find out the
details.
We currently have 1 color ad space on the
back cover, 13 black & white ad spaces on
the inside of the back cover and 6 color ad
spaces on the weekly insert.
Most parishes have an outside company
secure ads for their bulletins. The price to
each business or profession securing an ad is
much higher than our cost. Parishioners do
consult the ads on our weekly bulletin. The
parish makes a profit over and above paying
for the cost to produce the bulletin. The
parish uses that profit for expenses that
come up regularly that are not budgeted—
such as paying for books and fees for
students on all levels of education; making an
emergency payment for a funeral of a poor
family; making a car payment for someone
whose car would otherwise be repossessed,
etc…
While we hope your bulletin ad works well
for your business or profession—know also
that your ad is helping in a big way to pay for
emergency needs and educational needs of
the poor.
