Mass Intentions

for the Week

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 15, 2018

Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. — Psalm 85:12

Luis Adrian Zapata & Nohely Sanjuanita Escobedo

will be married on Saturday, July 21, 2018

CALLED BY GOD

Today’s scriptures invite us to listen to two calls. The first is the call issued by the L to the prophet Amos, the “shepherd and a dresser of sycamores” (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out “two by two” (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God “destined us for adop-tion” (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of

God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our mar-riages, families, schools, and plac-es of work. Let us be inspired to-day to say yes to the call we hear once again through God’s living word. copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Thank you for your continued support & generosity!

We especially pray every Wednesday after the evening Mass during the Novena of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Let us pray also for those whom God has called home recently especially Antonio A. Cantu and Alonzo E. “Lonnie” Gates, II. As we mourn their passing, let us rejoice at their birth to eternal life. Please Note: This list will be updated again on September 30th and every 90 days thereafter. We ask that you contact the Parish Office at 722-1231 if you would like for the name of your family member to remain on the “Pray for the Sick” list.

MASS ETIQUETTE: 20 THINGS TO DO AND NOT DO IN MASS

Today, 6-10. . .to be continued as space permits. 6. Dress modestly and appropriately. Wear your Sun-

day best. As Catholics we believe that God comes down to meet us at every Mass. So, why would we not dress up?

7. Show up at least a few minutes early. If for some reason you can’t be on time, then try to sit in the back so you don’t disturb others. Getting to Mass early al-lows you to pray and prepare yourself better for Mass.

8. Cell phones should never be used in Mass for calls or texting. The exceptions are emergencies (big ones, not everyday ones) and if you do use one, please walk out of church to do so. Also, if you are using the phone for readings or prayers, this is appropriate, but try to be discreet.

9. Do not sit on the edge of the pew if you sit down before others. Rather, sit in the middle so others don’t have to climb over you. Furthermore – Gentlemen offer your seats to a lady (elderly, disabled, etc.) who is standing. Some churches get packed. We live in Tex-as. In Texas men don’t sit when a woman is standing.

10. When we enter and leave the church, genuflect to-ward the Tabernacle. Christ is present for our sake. By allowing our right knee to hit the floor, we acknowledge He is our Lord and God. If someone is physically unable to genuflect, then a bow is sufficient. During Mass, if you pass in front of the altar or taber-nacle, bow reverently.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT GOD IN ALL In everything, be it a thing sensed, or a thing known, God is hidden within. —St. Bonaventure A MAGICAL EFFECT Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

—John Quincy Adams
