Mexicans want to go to the USA because they want a higher quality of life and a better standard of living. In America there are more and better job opportunities

Many Mexicans recognize Los Angeles as the ‘City of Opportunity’. In 1960 there were 5% of Hispanic people living in Los Angeles due to migration which increased to 15% living in Los Angeles. Figures in 1995 show that there are 32% living in Los Angeles that are Hispanic. This rapid increase is becoming a problem. In future Most if not all of Los Angeles will be Hispanic. There are also problems in other places such as Watts county. 11% of Watts county is Hispanic only in 1960 which is 6% more than in Los Angeles and then in 1996 72% were Hispanic, 24% black, 3% white and 1% Asian.

Because the population in Mexico is decreasing due to migration to the US, it means that there will be less workers so there will be less teachers, less builders, less doctors etc. Decrease in standard of living and all the men leave Mexico, some villages have lost half their population. But now they take there whole family. A lot of Mexicans try to cross illegally, if they are caught they are sent back to Mexico and they try again until they are successful or give up. The US have set up elaborate border security control using horses, helicopters and other advanced equipment. Some migrants arrive legally with there green card.
