Vibration radiate outwards in all directions and if the blast is large enough… can be felt world wide. Part of the nuclear test band treaty is to verify compliance. Monitoring stations are set globally. The State Department, Arms Control and Disarmament Agency is the responsible group in the US. Separating small nuclear detonations with large coal mine blasts is challenging. The video shows the global network of monitoring stations and then pans to a coal mine in Wyoming. The point is…. Vibrations can be felt anywhere from a coal mine blast.

Even though cap scatter may cause holes to fire in close proximity to one another… they are separated by large distance and the energy does not couple. Not at the end…. Scaled distance limits the vibrations. The more distant a blast … the lower the vibrations. The smaller the charge weigh…. The lower the vibrations. Thus vibrations are dependant on how hard the ground is hit and how far away you are. DISTANCE AND CHARGE WEIGHT ARE CRITICAL IN BLAST LOG REVIEW!!! If these cannot be verified, we cannot establish compliance.

Complaints (green house) are always someplace where data is not available and thus vibrations levels need to be estimated based on the blast logs. If the location of the blast is not precise, the complaint is hard to address.
