BLAINE JACKSON NewDominion Bank – Charlotte’s Community Bank Marc Bogan, President and Chief Operating Officer of NewDominion Bank introduced Blaine Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, as our speaker today. Blaine joined the bank in 2011 as CFO and was promoted to the position of CEO effective in January 2015. He has spent his entire career in community banking, first as a CPA in a firm that specialized in serving community banks, followed by serving as CFO for a community bank in the Atlanta area. He earned his under graduate degree in accounting at Georgia Southern University and a Master of Accountancy at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Blaine began his comments with an overview of the importance of community banking in general. He believes that community banks serve an important purpose not only in the communities in which they operate but also in the larger banking industry. A strong community bank presence is a catalyst for growth and prosperity in communities, supporting small businesses and fueling job creation through lending and other banking solutions. While subject to increased regulatory oversight, the burden is not as onerous as it can be for the larger national banks. Building strong relationships with business owners and entrepreneurs is a key growth strategy for NewDominion as it broadens its reach in the Charlotte area. With two offices, one located in midtown Charlotte and one at Lake Norman, there is plenty of room for expansion. NewDominion plans to double its size in the next 5 years and will capitalize on the fact that it is the only chartered community bank in our area. In spite of the increased use of technology in banking, and the closing of branch offices by the big banks, the community bank structure predicated on relationship building and personal interactions calls for growth in the number of branch locations in our area. While there is only one branded ATM for NewDominion in our area, all NewDominion customers are allowed free access to any bank’s ATM. The bank offers online banking as well. Blaine cited the perfect example of blending technology with bricks and mortar by pointing out that, in spite of its advanced technological capabilities, Apple continues to believe that it is important to invest in retail locations. Blaine summed it up by saying that community banking is all about people and relationships. Hiring bankers who are involved in the communities in which they live and work will further the growth potential of NewDominion in our broader community. Strong relationships between bankers and their customers will support the delivery of products and services that can be tailored to each situation. And having local decision makers will facilitate the process.
