    Preventing Injury and Damage B

    PreventingInjury andDamage

This section provides guidelines for preventing electrical injury and protecting componefrom electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

Preventing Shock ALWAYS power equipment OFF at the Power Switch.

Regardless of the type of procedure, set all Power Switches to OFF when servicing thegame, Top Box, or other equipment.

Unplug equipment from the outlet if not handling ESD-sensitive components.

Exercise caution when working around electrical equipment.

Preventing ESD   ALWAYS wear an ESD wrist strap.

Fasten a resistive type (1 or 10 Meg) ESD wrist strap on arm and ensure that it makes gskin contact, Figure B-1 (A). Secure the clip end of the wrist strap to a nearby ground po

    Suggested ground points are:

An unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.

Any labeled ESD common ground point, Figure B-1.

Figure B-1 ESD wrist strap (left) and ESD common ground point symbol (right).

Ground equipment when handling ESD-sensitive components.

When accessing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or components in direct contact with PCBincluding EPROMs, CompactFlash® Cards, and PCD connectors, connect the three-pro

equipment line cord to a properly grounded outlet. Then, secure the clip end of the ESD wstrap to an unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipmentenclosure.

    Properly Secure andVent all Equipment

Before performing any service tasks, the game (and Top/Accessory Box, if applicable) mustproperly secured as described in the Service Manual. All WMS cabinets and associatequipment (including Top/Accessory Box, controllers, etc.) must be properly installed. Uprigames must be mounted to a stand using four bolts, and all stands must be bolted to the floa wall, or secured back-to-back. Slant games must be installed back-to-back or back againswall. WMS Upright (BBU/BB2/BB2e/Blade) and Slant (BBS/BBS-W) cabinets requireminimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance on both sides and at the rear to allow for propventilation. WMS BBxD and GameField xD cabinets may be placed side by side, but requirminimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. Failure to f

secure and vent games may cause injury and equipment damage.

    Properly GroundGaming Devices

Avoid electrical shocks by using proper grounding at all times. Do not plug in the gaming deuntil you inspect and verify the outlet. Only connect WMS equipment to grounded, three-outlets. Do not use a cheater plug to defeat the AC Line Cord’s ground pin. Do not cut ofground pin. After servicing a gaming device, ensure that the ground wires are secure.

Third Party AC Device Electrical ConditionsThis section contains requirements for a Third Party AC Device (player tracking, prototranslators, etc.) for use in a Blade.

    Input voltage: 120 to 240 VAC, +/-10%, 50/60Hz

Leakage current: Less than 500 micro amps. This will assist in keeping the leakage curfor the gaming device below the limit stated in IL22 Clause 34.

Maximum input power of 60 watts at 120 VAC.

Meets Safety Standards  and EMC Standards on page 1-6.

Maximum operating temperature of +55ºC or greater.

Reference Table 1-9 for Third Party AC Device Connection and Power:

*When a Third Party AC Device is connected to the Switched AC (see Figure 1-5 (A) for Switched AC Connelocation), the Unswitched AC connectors, Figure 1-5 (B) must both be covered with a "DO NOT USE" label,

Figure 1-6. Additionally, the Switched AC connector current label must be replaced by label 16-010588-32 to

indicate the Switched AC connector 1 amp status.

**A Y-cable may be used on the Switched AC connector if the game uses another AC Device on the Switc

    MeasurementProcess for a Third

    Party AC Device

All measurements shall be performed under maximum normal load. Maximum normal load isdefined as all available features, inputs, and outputs that were designed to be used are in anactive state. The test shall be performed under normal operating conditions. As part of thenormal operating conditions, the test should be performed at +55°C (131°F) ambienttemperature to replicate the Blade internal cabinet temperature. In addition, the measurementsshall not be performed under any abnormal operating conditions such as a fault state or short.

To ensure consistency for the maximum power measurements for the third party AC device, thefollowing procedure is recommended:

Connect an AC RMS current meter in series with the "HOT" (AC in) for the third party AC

    device.

Plug in the third party AC device and ensure that the device has its maximum load applied toit without introducing any abnormal operating condition (i.e. If the device has 5 ports availablefor use, ensure that all 5 ports are being utilized at their normal operating conditions).

Place the AC RMS current meter to Amps and "peak" detect.

Exercise the Third Party AC Device for 5 minutes. This exercise for the third party AC devicewill mimic actual use.

Record the AC RMS current from the meter.

    Measure the AC voltage.

Multiply the AC RMS current with the AC voltage to determine power. Ensure that the power calculated does not exceed 60 Watts.
