About WileyPLUS
WileyPLUS is a web-based application that assists instructors in preparing for classes and
lectures and automates the process of assigning and grading homework. It allows students to
complete their homework online and receive instant feedback on their work.
Every course features the full, integrated online textbook containing hyperlinks to other innovative
features and resources, that may include the Study Guide, the Student Solutions Manual,
automatically graded homework and assessment questions, GO Tutorials, and numerous other
multimedia resources such as interactive simulations and exercises. These features are designed
to increase students' conceptual understanding of the material being covered and assist in the
development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The power of WileyPLUS is that each problem is linked to the relevant section of the interactive
book. This context-sensitive help gives students quick access to a set of focused help and
resources, and provides them with an opportunity to conquer problem-solving obstacles at the
point of contact.
About Blackboard-WileyPLUS Integration
The Blackboard-WileyPLUS integration provides tools for instructors to deploy and access
customized WileyPLUS readings, resources and assignments directly into Blackboard Learn. The
resources available to instructors also include links to WileyPLUS Tools, homepage and Total
Score, with the results included in the Blackboard Grade Center.
Students can seamlessly access the WileyPLUS materials and view grades from within the
Blackboard course.

Configuring the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block
The WileyPLUS Integration Building Block must be installed and enabled for use in courses.
Download and install the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block using the same process used for
other Building Blocks. You can find the Building Block Behind the Blackboard and in the
Extensions Catalog.
When installed, the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block will default to Inactive in the
Availability column and Unavailable in the Course/Org Default column.
Configuring and Registering the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block
Follow these steps to configure and register the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block:
Make the Building Block Available:
1. From the Administrator Panel, click Building Blocks.
2. Click Installed Tools.

Blackboard Learn WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Administrator Guide Page 9 ©2012 Blackboard Inc. Proprietary and Confidential
8. On the WileyPLUS / Blackboard Consumer Key and Secret Request page, enter your
institution and contact information and click Submit. You will be emailed with a
Consumer Key and Secret for the WileyPLUS Building Block for your school.
9. Upon receiving the information, enter the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret in the
fields on the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Settings page.
Blackboard Learn WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Administrator Guide Page 10 ©2012 Blackboard Inc. Proprietary and Confidential
NOTE: If your institution has multiple Blackboard instances (like different production,
test or staging Blackboard environments), each Blackboard instance will require a
unique set of Consumer Key and Consumer Secret. Do not use the same Consumer
Key and Consumer Secret on multiple Blackboard instances.
10. In the Local System Information fields, enter values for your service as follows:
Installation Type: Identifies the type of installation for this instance of Blackboard Learn
as Production, Staging, Test or Development. The Installation Type has no default
and should be selected so that your and Blackboard support teams can accurately
identify your Blackboard instance and provide the correct level of support.
Open WileyPLUS Links in a New Window: Determines the behavior of the user’s
browser when a user selects a WileyPLUS link from within Blackboard. Depending on the
setting, the WileyPLUS content will open either in the same browser window as
Blackboard or a new window or tab. The option selected also impacts the behavior of the
grade synchronization feature included as part of the WileyPLUS integration building
block.
If Yes is selected for this field then,
Blackboard Learn WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Administrator Guide Page 11 ©2012 Blackboard Inc. Proprietary and Confidential
All WileyPLUS links from your Blackboard courses will open in a new window or
tab (depending on the user’s browser setting).
The student will be able to view the WileyPLUS content in the new window or
tab, but will need to return to the original window in order to view Blackboard
content.
When a student completes a gradable WileyPLUS assignment in the new
window or tab, that student’s grade will not be sent back to Blackboard until the
instructor opts to manually synchronize grades at a later time.
If No is selected for this field then,
All WileyPLUS links from your Blackboard courses – except those noted below –
will open in the same window as the active Blackboard instance.
When a WileyPLUS assignment is opened in the same window as Blackboard, a
Return to Blackboard button appears at the top of the WileyPLUS screen.
When a student completes a gradable WileyPLUS assignment, by clicking the
Return to Blackboard button the student will synchronize the assignment’s
grade between Blackboard and WileyPLUS.
Exception: WileyPLUS Help screen, support links and a few other non-content
screens will continue to open in a new window or tab (depending on the user’s
browser settings).
NOTE: The behavior of each WileyPLUS link will be determined by the Open
WileyPLUS Links in a New Window field when the content is accessed. Therefore, if
the option in this field is later changed, the behavior of each existing link will reflect the
updated option, and any new links created will follow the newly-selected option.
Enable Detailed Logging: Enables temporary detailed (DEBUG) system logging for
troubleshooting. Detailed Logging should not be enabled when initially configuring the
Building Block. If needed at sometime in the future, you can select the time for detailed
logging from the drop-down and select Start. The detailed logs will be recorded for the
selected time, then revert to the default logging level to maintain system performance.
11. The Privacy Configuration section provides two options to control how the integration
building block shares user information and how the user is alerted to potential security
issues when navigating from Blackboard.
Blackboard Learn WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Administrator Guide Page 12 ©2012 Blackboard Inc. Proprietary and Confidential
Share User Information:
Select Yes to automatically share user’s first name, last name, and email address with
WileyPLUS each time a user accesses WileyPLUS from a link within Blackboard. If Yes
is selected, Blackboard will share this user information without explicitly requesting the
user’s permission.
If No is selected, each individual user will be prompted to share their personal information
when they first enter WileyPLUS from a link within Blackboard. Each user, when first
entering WileyPLUS from a Blackboard link, will encounter the following screen. The
screen provides a link to the WileyPLUS Privacy Policy, and prompts the user to either
agree or not agree to the sharing of their user information with WileyPLUS.
If the user agrees to share their user information, the user’s first name, last name
and email will be shared with WileyPLUS to facilitate the identification of the user
in both systems.
If the student does not agree to share their information, an anonymous user
account will be created in WileyPLUS to link student data in both systems so that
grades can be synchronized.

Show User Acknowledgement Message:
Select Yes so that users will see a message each time they click a WileyPLUS link,
notifying them that they are accessing a link outside of Blackboard Learn. A checkbox
accompanies the notification, allowing users to hide the message for future access into
WileyPLUS. See the screenshot below for a sample of the screen.
Select No to prevent the Acknowledgement screen from displaying.
Message Text: If Show User Acknowledgement Message is selected as Yes, the
administrator must include a customized message which will be included on the
Acknowledgement screen shown below.

12. Under the Scheduled Grade Refresh section, choose whether grades should
automatically be updated in your Blackboard instance from WileyPLUS. A Scheduled
Grade Refresh will poll WileyPLUS for all new grades in every active and available
Blackboard course that is associated with a WileyPLUS course section.
Blackboard Learn WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Administrator Guide Page 15 ©2012 Blackboard Inc. Proprietary and Confidential
Schedule Grade Refresh: No is selected by default. Select Yes to enable automatic
grade refreshes from WileyPLUS. The remaining Scheduled Grade Refresh controls are
disabled until Yes is selected.
Next Scheduled Run: The next time the Blackboard system should initiate a scheduled grade refresh. The time and date can be selected in the calendar and time controls. When the time of the next scheduled run arrives, the automatic grade refresh is begun, and the value of the Next Scheduled Run is updated according to the selected Frequency. For example, if the Next Scheduled Run was set to 05/02/2012 at 11:37 AM and the selected Frequency was Every 12 Hours, the Next Scheduled Run would update to 05/02/2012 at 11:37 PM (12 hours later). Frequency: Select how often Blackboard should initiate a scheduled grade refresh.
Every 24 Hours is selected by default for daily grade refreshes.
Last Checked: Displays the date and time of the last attempt to update Blackboard
grades from WileyPLUS.
Last Refreshed: Displays the date and time of the last successful grade refresh from WileyPLUS.

13. Under the Blackboard Course Roles Mapping section, map Blackboard course roles
with WileyPLUS roles.
Instructor Roles: Select all Blackboard courses roles which should be given instructor
privileges in WileyPLUS courses linked to Blackboard Learn courses. The Instructor role
is selected by default, but if there are additional roles, such as Teaching Assistant or
Grader which should also have those privileges, select them here.
Lead Instructor Role: If your Blackboard instance has a custom Lead Instructor course
role specified, select this role to map to the Lead Instructor role in WileyPLUS. By default,
no role is pre-selected. Leave the field selection as None if no such role exists in your
Blackboard instance. Click the link in the description for more information about the
WileyPLUS Lead Instructor role.
14. Click Submit to save all changes.
If you receive a Configuration saved successfully inline success receipt on the Building Blocks
page, the Building Block was installed and configured successfully. The WileyPLUS Registration
Status will change to OK in the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block settings page.
If you receive an Invalid Configuration inline error receipt on the WileyPLUS Integration Building
Block settings page, look at the Message field in the WileyPLUS Registration Status section for
details. If the registration still fails after making the appropriate changes based on the error
message, contact you Wiley Account Manager or open a ticket on Behind the Blackboard.

NOTE:
The Blackboard Learn server time must be accurate to plus or minus five minutes of UTC
(Coordinated Universal Time), or the links between Blackboard Learn and WileyPLUS will fail.
If your school’s installation of Blackboard Learn is behind a firewall and the Building Block
registration fails due to a connection timeout, open the following hostname and ports on the
firewall to permit communication between WileyPLUS and Blackboard Learn:
o Hostname: edugen.wileyplus.com
o Ports: 80 and 443
Refer to the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block Release Notes on Behind the Blackboard

Removing Access to the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block
To remove access to the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block, change the Availability setting to
Inactive on the Building Blocks page. This will remove all WileyPLUS features from Blackboard
Learn, but will maintain Grade information in each course’s Grade Center. Links to WileyPLUS
deployed inside courses will remain visible, but will not function.
To completely remove the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block from Blackboard Learn, click the
Delete button next to the Building Block name in the Building Blocks page
Setting the Availability to Unavailable is not recommended, as it will allow links inside courses to
remain live, but will not guarantee synchronization between Blackboard Learn and WileyPLUS,
which may be disruptive to instructors and students.

Instructor and Student Access
Instructors and students will have access to WileyPLUS resources from within the content area
and Tools area of their courses.
There is no charge for instructor access to WileyPLUS. Information about the integration and
instructions for setting up access and connecting their Blackboard Learn course are available
under the Learn more about WileyPLUS link in the WileyPLUS tools page in each Blackboard
course.
Students will be directed to registration information and may be also directed to payment
information based on the integration setup in Wiley when they first access any WileyPLUS link
from their course.

Changing User and/or Course Batch UIDs
The integration between Blackboard and WileyPLUS operates on the encrypted version of
the user and course Batch UIDs (also referred to as External Person Keys and External Course
Keys). And changes to these identifiers after the user and/or course are associated will result in:
The disassociation of the accounts between Blackboard and WileyPLUS.
Will cause the integration to stop working for the user if the Batch UID for a user is
changed.
Will cause the integration to stop working for the entire course if the Batch UID for a
course is changed.
May cause inconsistencies in the grades for WileyPLUS content items in the Blackboard
course Grade Center.
Please avoid any changes to the user and course Batch UIDs once the WileyPLUS building
block is available to users at your institution. If the change to a user and/or course Batch UID is
necessary, please contact the Wiley Support team prior to changing the Batch UID to understand
the impact and to fix any issues related to the updated Batch UID.
