A key difference between successful people

leaders and those who struggle to get

    by, is self-discipline.

As Confucius wrote, "The nature of people

is always the same; it is their habits thatseparate them."

Successful people have formed the habits

of doing those things that most peopledon't want to do.

If discipline is a key to success, most

people would rather pick the lock.

    Delaying gratification is a good

    example.

It's much easier to live in the moment

and let tomorrow take care of itself.http://www.jimclemmer.com

Our discipline and habits spring from

    our passion and commitment.

I find that when I have the least

    amount of self-discipline!

it's oftenbecause my heart isn't in it.

So to motivate myself, I need to findways to increase my passion.

    Visioning creates passion. The more

clear and compelling the vision, the

    stronger the passion.

The stronger the passion, the more

likely we are to hang in there during

the inevitable downs and defeats aswe reach for our dreams.

    Politeness

    "Manners are of more importance

than laws. Manners are what vex

or soothe, corrupt or purify, exaltor debase, barbarize or refine us,

    by a constant, steady, uniform,

insensible operation, like that ofthe air we breathe in."

    Whenever someone treats you kindly,

    show your appreciation, express your

gratitude, and offer your thanks. For asSeneca taught, "There is as much

greatness of mind in acknowledging a

good turn, as in doing it."

    Act kindly toward others without

    expecting anything in return. To

act in the expectation of a rewardcancels out the kindness.

Treat others with respect. Treating royalty, political leaders, or movie stars with respect

is a common occurrence, but treating

beggars, the homeless, and ex-cons with

respect is the mark of greatness. It is notonly the downtrodden that need respect, it isour children, too. If we dont already respect

them for what they are, how can we help

them become more than they are?
