Miefortune came to the squadron on March 13th when the p,Iane piloted byLt . Bet t s rva s h i t by f l ak ave r Port o Sen St e f ano , and was di t ched us t e as t ofthe northern tip of Sardini8 . Lt. Shaffer parachuted out over the target, andwas thought to be captured, *hile Lt . Betts and Sgt. Pinto w ere rescued from the eter. The other crew membera, Lt. Negle, Lt. Stockdale, Sgt . Turner, and Pvt. Pilson were casuelties as a result of drowning.
