The magazine for All Saints’ Church – Aug/Sep 2013
From Rev Rosie Woodall
I write this in my last few weeks in my current parish, as I prepare to move house and begin a new stage of my ministry as the priest-in-charge of Bisley, Chalford, France Lynch and Oakridge. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all – although you will have to forgive me if it takes a while to remember everyone’s names. I hope I won’t say too often “in Gloucester we did so and so” – you must tell me if I do!
The arrival of a new incumbent is bound to feel like a new start, a time of transition and perhaps some change, but please don’t think that means the baby will go out with the bathwater. I plan to take time to listen to people’s thoughts, concerns and opinions. Together we can celebrate and build on what has gone on before, while also working together to reach out into the community, particularly to our local schools and businesses.
I extend my thanks to all those who have looked after the benefice during the vacancy, including the churchwardens, congregations and local ministry team, as I know it can be a challenging time for everyone. A passage that has always had particular resonances for me, and perhaps might for you at this stage, is from Isaiah – “those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint”. (Isaiah chapter 40 verse 31)
God will always be with us on our journey together, wherever that may take us, inspiring and encouraging us. Meanwhile in the next few weeks, please pray for me as I will pray for you.
Rosie

The relationship between Bisley Blue Coat School and All Saints’ Church is long-standing and precious and always evolving in new and exciting ways.
As part of their school curriculum Class 3 pupils researched and compiled a Children’s Guide to Bisley All Saints’ Church and there is a copy on display on the porch notice-board.
The many prayers on the back page are heartfelt and give us an insight into what these youngsters are thinking
about.
Dear Lord, please help the
homeless and starving people in many countries and bring health and happiness to those in need.
Dear God, thank you for your love in us and helping us to be kind to others, thank you for believing in us when we are in doubt.
Key Stage 2 pupils from Bisley and Oakridge enjoyed an activity morning with a difference: ‘Pulse’ Olympic Games. Four teams, Rowers,
Runners, Swimmers and Cyclists competed in a series of interesting outdoor games including a very competitive “Noughts & Crosses”. Claire Bishop, Susie Bromley, Phil Coysh, Kim Trinder and I helped out and, despite the drizzly weather everyone really enjoyed themselves. Although the intention of each team was to win their games, points were also awarded for fair play, respect, team support and motivation. The theme was ‘Courage’ and, after watching a cartoon of Daniel in the Lion’s Den, the youngsters thought about someone they considered to be courageous. We also linked courage to prayer and faith in God. Youth Minister Anton Wynn interviewed me about how Courage and Faith are important in the job of a fire fighter. It was a great morning: pupils and adults alike thoroughly enjoyed themselves with Gold Medals being awarded to the winning team. (Peter Thorp)

Bell Ringing News – Ian Bucknell
Ryan Brown completed his first Quarter Peal of 1260 Grandsire Triples on Saturday 8th June on the occasion of his parents’ 25th and his grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversaries. The Ringing World National Youth Contest, for youngsters under the age of 19, took place on Saturday 6th July in York and 16 teams from all over the country competed. Six Bisley youngsters were in the Gloucester and Bristol Diocesan Association Squad and 4 were chosen to be in the team of 8. Once again the G&B team won the ‘Method’ category (complicated stuff!) having been awarded A- but were beaten into third place overall by two teams ringing Call Changes (simple stuff!!) who were each awarded A’s. Each member of the G&B was given a gold medal for winning their category. We all enjoyed a fantastic weekend in York: on Sunday morning a group of us rang at Wakefield Cathedral, Ryan Brown rang the Minster bells and the Tongue family squeezed into a packed Minster for the service.
Coronation Cafê Church & Lunch Worshippers enjoyed a lively Cafê Church on Sunday 2nd June, followed by a delicious buffet lunch, provided by members of the congregation. Lazy
Cook Mo Smith’s Coronation Cake was a big success.
Come and join us for Cafê Church on 4th August
