BIS and Partner Organisations Finance Academy – CPD offer

NEW Free pocket guide to IFRS

The International Accounting Standards Board does a free pocket guide to IFRS.It is about 200 pages long  - which does not sound very ‘pocket’. But in fact a very large part of the book is taken up with a guide to what countries use IFRS. The really useful part for BIS accountants and trainee accountants will be just 25 pages (approx.) i.e. pages 174 – 200. These pages give short summaries of all of the current International Financial Reporting Standards, and so are good for revision, learning, etc. Because it is all done and approved by IASB then people can be confident in the content.

The new version is just out  - you can locate it: here

NEW Software Demo Day at ACCA HQ in London

A free opportunity for finance people to review a variety of accounting related software. The  ACCA is hosting a demo day on 24 June offering hands-on experience of a variety of software solutions currently on the market – e.g. Sage, Exact, MyFirmsApp, FreeAgent, Microsoft, Adaptive Insights and IBM. There are morning (breakfast) and afternoon (lunch) sessions.

You can find more information about it and register: Here

NEW Accountancy Salon

Accountancy Salon is a new series of discussion events organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW).They provide a space for an advanced debate on the complex and dynamic role of the accounting profession in contemporary society. Each session focuses on a specific theme and features brief talks by an invited panel and an open discussion with a cross-disciplinary audience. The first event is about blockchain technology (the IT behind bitcoin) and is on 20 June 2016.

You can access details for this and other events: Here or contact [email protected]

The module on Understanding Financial Crime is taken from Preventing Financial Crime by John Taylor. Take a look at what comprises financial crime, the different types of crime that are committed as well as their potential warning signs. This course also introduces some key issues: money laundering, bribery and corruption.

To find out more information about the full course, which is the equivalent of 4hrs CPD, Cick here.

New Breughel Publications

Breughel are a Brussels based economics think tank. They don’t really have any political affiliation but they do for obvious reasons tend to be very pro-EU etc. But the interesting thing for BIS people (and not just economists) is that they do good quality think pieces about various sectors or current issues in industry, finance, business, etc. – see e.g. the piece about parcels delivery below. You can sign up to get their email publications for free, and of course you only read them if the topic is of interest.

For more information and to sign up please visit: Breughel Publications
