We have been very busy filming some great videos

for you! Visit the Tiny Recreation YouTube Channel

to play games, sing songs, and follow along with

birthday activities. Each activity in this booklet is

accompanied by a video on our YouTube channel.

Some are short little clips, while others let you spend

more time with us. We hope you have as much fun

watching them as we had making them!

• String

• Paper circles

• Cardboard circles

• Crayons

• Scissors

• Glue or tape

1. Colour both paper circles with crayons; add lots of

detail and colour!

2. Take your cardboard circle and glue or tape a paper

circle on each side so that the cardboard is all covered.

3. Cut two holes in the middle of the paper spinner using

scissors. Ask for help from an adult if needed!

4. Cut a piece of string around one metre long.

5. Take the ends of your string and feed one end through

each hole. Pull until you have an equal amount of string

on both sides of the spinner. Tie the ends of the string

together so that you have a loop.

6. Make sure the paper spinner is in the middle of your

string loop.

7. Put two fingers in each end of the string loop and wind

the spinner up by making circular motions with your

hands (like you are skipping with a skipping rope).

8. Pull your left hand to the left side and right hand to the

right side at the same time to watch your spinner spin!

You can create an optical illusion with your paper

spinner by colouring the primary colours of red, yellow

and blue side by side in the circle. When you spin your

wheel, it’ll appear as though you also have the colours

green, orange and purple!

• Paper bags

• Tissue paper

• Glow sticks

• Confetti

• String

• Staples or tape

• Candy or prizes from home (optional)

1. Open up your tissue paper and cut it into long strips

about 2 inches wide.

2. Cut these strips into smaller sections that are the

same length as the width of your paper bag or you

can cut them just long enough so they wrap all the

way around the bag.

3. Make thin cuts at the bottom of the strips to create a

fringe. Be sure to only cut half way through!

4. Tape or glue the tissue paper strips on to the bag. It

looks best if you overlap them and cover up the whole

bag.

5. Fill your pinata with the extra tissue paper, confetti,

glow sticks and any other fun candy or prizes you

have at home.

6. Fold over the top of your paper bag piñata and tape or

staple the edges of the opening to close it.

7. Use scissors to make a small hole at the top of the

bag.

8. Put the string through the small hole and tie it in a

loop.

9. Hang your piñata up in a safe area. Use a stick or

your hands to whack your piñata and burst it open!

• 1 cup of cornstarch

• 1 package of Jell-O

• ¾ cup of warm water

• A mixing bowl

• A mixing spoon

• A tablespoon

• ¼ cup measurement tool

• Cookie sheet or tray to keep surface clean (optional)

1. Combine the cornstarch and Jello powder together until fully mixed.

2. Add ¼ cup of warm water and stir well.

3. When the mix becomes impossible to stir, add another ¼ cup of water.

4. If you like your slime, stop now. If your slime is too dry start kneading in one tablespoon of water at a time, until the mixture stretches a bit. Be sure to add in the water slowly so that the mixture does not become too runny. If your slime is too watery, slowly knead in one tablespoon of cornstarch at a time.

5. Have fun playing with your jello slime!

6. Store in a container in the fridge. Add a tablespoon of water the next time you want to play with it.

The brand Jell-O has been around since 1895! It

started out with only 4 flavours; lemon, orange,

raspberry and strawberry.

Trompe-l'œil, French for deceive the eye, is an art

technique that uses realistic imagery to create

an optical illusion.

• Roll of paper

• Box of crayons or paint

• Scissors

• Markers or other writing tool

1. Cut your roll of paper to your desired length. Make one

that’s long enough to cover a wall or fence at your

house.

2. Use crayons, paint or other writing tools to create your

own unique party mural!

3. Display your party mural someplace outside your

house as a decoration so that others know it’s your

birthday!

• Spray bottle

• Canvas’

• Paint

• Water squirters

• Garbage bag

• Paper cones

• ⅓ cup of water

• A spoon

• A bowl

• Scissors

1. Mix ½ cup of paint with ⅓ cup of water in your bowl.

2. Cut off the tip of your paper cone and put it into the opening at the back of the water squirter.

3. Carefully pour the paint and water mixture into the cone, letting it flow into the water squirter.

4. Put your canvas on the garbage bag to keep the surface below clean.

5. Spray the paint on the canvas in a pattern of your choice.

Before paint was invented, people used different types

of soils, berries, vegetables like beets and carrots to

create colours. They used these as pigments to draw!

• Sponges

• Elastics

• Scissors

• A bucket

• Water

• A playing area

1. Cut your sponge into 5 thin vertical strips (about the size of your pinky finger) and then cut each of those strips in half. You should end up with 10 strips in total.

2. Place down the first sponge strip and keep crossing over the sponge strips until it makes a star shape.

3. Tie an elastic around the center of the sponge strips.

4. Move around the sponge strips to cover the elastic.

5. You are ready to play! Read the instructions below.

• First, everyone must decide on someone to be ‘it’. This person will grab the sponge and get it wet.

• The ‘it’ person must try and hit the other players by throwing the sponge.

• When someone gets hit, they become ‘it’ and the player who was ‘it’ is now a regular player.

• The new ‘it’ player must dip the sponge in the water and try to hit someone new with the sponge.

• This game doesn’t end until you want it to and can have an unlimited number of players.

A sponge is actually an animal! Sponges can’t move

and can be found in all types of water. They help filter

the water. A basketball-sized sponge can filter an

entire residential pool in one day.

Did you know the song “Happy Birthday to You” dates

back all the way to 1893 but was originally called

“Good Morning to You”. Now, it’s one of the most well

known songs worldwide and has been translated into

more then 18 different languages.

• Paper plates

• Colour guide

• Colour three paper plates: one red, one blue, and one yellow. Leave the rest of the plates unpainted. Be as creative as you like by adding fun designs to your plates!

• Select one person to control the music, a D.J.!

• Place the plates in a circle; the plates can be spread out 6 feet apart or placed closer together if playing within your social circle.

• Have each player stand in front of a plate. When everyone is ready, the D.J. starts the music.

• As the music plays, players rotate clockwise around the circle. This is an opportunity to show off some dance moves!

• The D.J. chooses a random time to stop the music. When the music stops, all players must rush to stand in front of the plate closest to them. Remember, only one player per plate!

• There is no elimination in this game. However, players who land in front of a coloured plate must complete a challenge. Players who land in front of an unpainted plate get a free pass and have no challenge to complete.

• The colour guide lists an easy and hard challenge for all three categories (red, yellow, blue).

• The red plate is a fitness challenge.

• The yellow plate is a scavenger hunt challenge.

• The blue plate is a drama challenge.

• Once everyone has completed the challenge for that round, the D.J. restarts the music.

• The game continues for a total of five rounds. After five rounds, players can choose to restart the game.
