Around the early 1930’s, the black human race was always discriminated and looked down upon.
Because they introduced R&B, many whites appreciated the genre due to their racist views
towards black peopleNot all white disliked black music. However, not all
black people enjoyed black music as they thought it was too sexual at that time. (Polysemic readings)
Ray Charles was completely blind at the age of seven. Ray Charles did not have
much choices in life at that time. However, he was
fascinated by the music on radio and dreamed to sing on
the radio one day
Ray Charles was inspired
by Louis Jordan in order to
become a professional
musician.
Ray Charles played piano like a pro at fifteen years
old ever since he was inspired by listening to
music on the radio.
In 1945 Ray Charles left the security of the school to seek a career out of becoming a professional musician
•Atlantic Records was the gatekeeper of Black Music at that time.
•Gatekeepers is people who go out, select the music and distribute it. At that time, they selected R&B which was created by Louis Jordan, a black musician.
