The rest of you who haven't paid are also in danger of losing your membership and investment in the best club in America. Remember you must be current on your dues and fees before March 1 st to keep from being delinquent. Keep on prospecting and finding gold. But more important, have fun out there with friends and family. Remember if you packed it in, pack it out. Dont forget about the Steward of the Land program. A gold nugget is waiting for the lucky winner, but you must pick up someone else's trash and take a picture of your "treasures" and send them via email to the office: rrpc-[email protected]. President’s Corner

Welcome to the shortest month of the year. We do not even get leap year until next year. Now, it is time to go on to the latest news. Most of you know that the January dig was canceled because of the weather conditions. Regrettably, not everyone got the cancelation notice. DRY WEATHER, PLEASE!

IT’S TIME FOR OUR FEBRUARY DIG!!

8:00 AM SATURDAY FEBRUARY 23th

DIG LOCATION ON LUCKY SEVEN & EIGHT - MAP 16

Directional Signs will be posted. * High Clearance vehicles recommended, but a 4WD is not a necessity if you use caution.

* As a member, wearing or displaying your RRPC name badge is required.

* No parking on access road and please maintain a distance of 100 feet from the dig site with your vehicle. Be prepared...we will be trying a new dig procedure due to the limited access caused by last year’s weath-er plus the rainy weather in January and February this year. We will be bringing the pay dirt to a common lo-cation, running it through a grizzly, and spreading the dirt out to help it dry for members to process. The area to set up your equipment will be marked, so make sure you bring buckets, a wheelbarrow, and shovels. The holes will be off-limits due to the backhoe needing access to obtain additional dirt to replenish the common area, as needed, throughout the day. After 5:00 PM until Sunday afternoon, the holes will be availa-ble to members. Safety first everyone! Stay clear of all machinery in operation and please follow directions given by the dig committee and their volunteers. (Dig committee personnel will be wearing florescent vests.) Access to the dig sites will not be authorized until 8:00 AM Saturday morning. The Dig area remains open until Sunday. This is a Common Dig; we all share the material. But the gold you find is ALL yours.

We WELCOME all RRPC members and guests to join us!

* No Registration or organized lunch. * A porta potty will be available for this dig. Make sure your list of items to bring has: shade for your work area, drinking and panning water, chair, hat, sunscreen, all your equipment that you’ve tested, including new spark plugs and….be sure you have put in fresh gas! Your Outings Committee will bring the Club’s Keene 151 dry washer and a smaller dry washer for your use. Look for the shade canopy with an Arizona Flag. Your Outings Committee will be camping from Thurs-day until Sunday at this event. The location will be determined once road conditions have been evaluated. Members will be notified at the general meeting on what to expect. Come join us! Great place for a family camping adventure! We’re glad to show you around and share pro-specting history. Campfire FUN guaranteed! We have many hearty prospectors who bunk in their vehicles and also join in on the RRPC camp fun.

Once again, there will be directional signs to the dig and camping area.

Any questions-anytime call your Outings Committee: Sheryl 623-687-8211or Mike 623-606-5303

Alaska Gold trip July 12 – 25, 2019 to Nome, Alaska.

AKAU Alaska Gold & Resort - www.akaugold.com

Wanted: People interested in going to the AKAU

gold camp in Nome, Alaska. If we can get 20 people or more per week signed up, we would get a reduced

weekly rate. The regular rate is $2,500 per week and

they would reduce it to $1,400 per week. Most of the members I have talked to are planning to stay

two weeks straight and for members wanting to stay

just one week you could stay the first or second week.

First week would be July 12-18 (Friday – Thurs-

day) and the second week would be July 19-25 (Friday – Thursday). They pick you up at the Nome

Airport on Friday and drop you off on Thursday

based on your flight times. That makes for a short trip if you only go one week. The required deposit is

$325/week or $650 for two weeks due now. Airfare

is NOT included and currently runs about $580 - $1200 round trip which you would need to arrange.

Anyone can go, you don’t need to be a member

of a club. Space is limited so first come first serve for reservations; tentatively 15 people are planning to

go so far.

For more information, contact Brian Bierman [email protected] or 440-570-5371.

Please call in the evening since I work full time or text me.

RRPC Office Manager, Pete Baker, discusses the details of membership in the RRPC to any prospec-tive members at every gen-eral meeting. If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, come see what you are missing!

Meet the RRPC Board…. Chuck Gentles

I was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, a small coal mining town. This is where the mining adventures first started. My family moved to Pittsburgh when I was eleven and that is where I graduated from South Hills High School. I enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at an Air Defense Command nuclear radar site in Sundance, Wyoming where I met my lifetime mining partner and wife, Sheryal. I also met my first gold prospector who was a civilian working on site. After five years in the USAF, I went to work as an electrician in a uranium mine in Shirley Basin, Wyo-ming. After two years I left that mine and went to work for Pacific Power and Light as a mine electrician in Glenrock, Wyoming. I started my own electrical contracting business in Casper, Wyoming. When the econ-omy got bad in Wyoming, we moved to Phoenix. I worked as an electrician on the high-rise buildings on Cen-tral Avenue in Phoenix. When the job was over, I went to work for Phoenix Power in Chandler, AZ building electrical substations nationwide. I received an offer to work for Indicom Electric as an estimator/project man-ager. I then met a guy who was selling and buying gold claims. I went out with him on a test and we ended up selling the gold to Mavis Hicks and there I picked up an RRPC flier and joined the Roadrunners. The Red Basin claims were purchased from the guy who I had met who was selling the claims. I became a GPAA member and because of Ken Belfore, an RRPC member, and I joined the New 49ers. So, I have been prospecting for over 30 years and have been an RRPC member for going on 26 years. I have mined in Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon, California, and a lot in Arizona. We have panned, sluiced, dry washed, high banked, metal detected, and my favorite is dredging underwater. That's my story and I am sticking to it…... Chuck Gentles Board Member

When you come to the monthly meetings, you will meet and be treated to drinks and snacks by our Cookie Monsters, Pam and Kevin Hasey! Thank you both for all you do for RRPC! There are many benefits to being an active member of RRPC, so…….

Are you an experienced prospector that loves to share your knowledge with others? Do you get anxious in the field when you see someone using equipment inefficiently and have a desire to help them? Now is your chance to rise up and share your equipment success stories. The RRPC is planning an equipment training field experience for the general membership on April 6th at the Map 12 Cass claims. This event will have several training stations that will be conducted by Club “experts” and a class duration of 40 minutes. During this class, the in-structor will teach their chosen equipment: usage, types, care, and what makes it successful in the field. Equipment to be highlighted (but not limited to) are: panning and finishing, dry washers, puffers, recirculators, gold cubes, sluices, highbankers, dredges, crack and crevice tools and vacuums, and gold detectors. It is our goal to be very hands on and keep each session to the planned time. All teaching stations will be going on simultaneously. When the horn “blows” attendees will switch stations and learn about another piece of equipment. Trainers: Please send your name, badge num-ber, and the type of equipment you would like to demo to the RRPC email to be a part of this unique event. Attendees: Please RSVP by email or call the office and leave a message if you are planning to attend.

Demonstration of Equipment… April 6th on the Cass Claims!

Announcing the new Buy Back Gold Program.

Any member in good standing may add their name to a list of members willing to sell their gold back to the club at spot value. We

will only call members when the club needs to purchase gold. The club is only interested in

Arizona gold nuggets and the sizes we use. The club reserves the right to choose which nuggets they will purchase. Club members

should also bring a minimum of 7 nuggets to sell. The seller will need to make an appoint-

ment with the Vice President for a Wednesday during normal office hours to process the sale. Each member will be required to complete the

sales form below. This is a win-win for the club and members!

Gold Nuggets are given out at every meeting through the raffle and VIP drawings!

RRPC is currently looking for responsible, experienced vendors to do silk screened jackets, hats, and de-

cals or embroidered jackets, hats, and decals.

If anyone is interested or knows someone, please email the RRPC office at [email protected] for details.

RRPC will be obtaining quotes and choosing a new vendor in the near future.

Steward of the Land……...

January has turned into the month of February so quickly. Valentine's Day will be on us shortly. One way that RRPC can celebrate the month of "love" is to show how much we each love our claims. Choose a claim and go clean it up. There is still a lot of thinking going on with "Adopt a Claim". A final concept has not been decided upon with this program, so I will table it for now. That does not mean this article will be any shorter; get your visual biceps working. Let's relook at the fire rings from last November's article and talk about what is required by the club to jus-tify a member to get one's member number in the Steward of the Land VIP drawing.

1. Go find a claim that you may think is heavily used by the public, both by RRPC members and the public at large.

2. This will increase the chances that there will be many fire rings in close proximity of each other. 3. Take a picture of the area where you wish to lessen the amount of fire rings. 4. Most rings will be found with rocks in a ring around the area where the actual fire was ignited. 5. Take those rocks and physically walk them or place them in a wheel barrow and take them to an area

where those rocks will appear in a natural setting. Placing or throwing rocks two (2) to six (6) feet away from the fire ring does not count! If there are charred markings on the stones that you have re-moved, turn them so the charred area is not visible. And, yes, we are doing exterior decorating or natu-ral landscaping.

6. Do not forget to collect any trash, such as cans and broken glass, or other items. 7. Go back to what is left of the old fire ring and use a stick or shovel to turn over the soil so there is no

sight of black ashes. It is less likely that fires will be built on that same site if it looks unused for fires previously.

8. Now the real work begins. Grab your cell phone or other camera and take after-photographs of your great work. Attach your photos to an email including your name, member number, and the name of the claim that you reclaimed the fire ring from.

9. You may send in as many different fire ring emails as you want from different claims.

Happy fire ring destroying! Terry Wilson
