BIRDS Call for EntriesDeadline: Sept 20 , 2013
The Hyattsown Mill Arts Project , Clarksburg Maryland
Exhibition Dates:
October 5th. 2013 and continues through October 27th. 2013.
The Hyattstown Mill Arts Project is seeking artworks for its September juried exhibition Birds.
How do you see birds as brightly plumed aerial acrobats, as natures bebop musicians, as
iconic symbols of war and peace, as back yard nest-makers or park bench mess-makers?
Share with us your appreciation of these diminutive descendants of the dinosaurs. We are
looking for artwork that explores the idea or essence of birds All media and disciplines are
welcome. All interpretations are encouraged All ages are eligible.
About HMAP ;The Hyattstown Mill Arts Project is a 501 (3) c non-profit organizationdedicated to serving our regions diverse community through multidiscipline art activities andcultural events. HMAP is in a curatorship program with Maryland-National Capital Park andPlanning (m-NCPPC )and stewards the historic Hyattstown Mill site. We are located in the
3,700 acre Little Bennett Regional Park , Montgomery Countys largest Regional Park.

About the Juror;
Richard L. Dana is a self-taught artist who has exhibited extensively in the UnitedStates and internationally. His work has appeared in over 20 one-person and over 100 group
exhibitions.
Selected exhibitions in the United States include the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington,
DC), the Chrysler Museum (Norfolk VA), the Octagon House Museum (Washington, DC), the
Drawing Center (New York, NY), Tribes Gallery (New York, NY), the International Monetary
Fund (Washington, DC), Maryland Art Place (Baltimore, MD), the Washington Project for theArts (Washington, DC), the Hotchkiss School (Lakeville, Conn.) and the Troyer, Fitzpatrick,
Lassman Gallery (Washington, DC).
Internationally Mr. Dana has exhibited in Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Japan,
Kazakhstan, Morocco, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Mr. Dana received an undergraduate degree in Russian Studies from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 and a master's degree in International Relations from Johns
Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in 1977. He worked as an economist and
Soviet Affairs expert in Washington, D.C. from 1977 to 1984. Having spent much of his free
time painting since preparatory school, he decided in 1984 to transform into a full-time
artist and has been creating art ever since.
How to Apply;
Email [email protected] one to five digital images of your artwork. There is
no size restriction for artwork and artwork can be outdoor sculpture as well. Please
keep file image size under 2mb. There is a $10.00 fee for non-HMAP members.
Please visit HMAP for membership information. Artist should include a cover sheet
document that provides the following information ; Artist name , address, e-mail
address, & contact phone number, For each art image please provide : Title, medium,
special hanging or handling instructions if any, and an artist statement if you prefer .
Artists whose work is accepted into the exhibition are encouraged, although not
required to, support the project by providing two hours of Gallery supervision. Non-
members are asked to mail their application fee to :
