What is “DIATHERMY” ?The term diathermy means “electrically
induced heat”, it is nothing but the use of high-frequency electromagnetic current as in a form of physical or occupational therapy and in surgical procedures.BENEFITS:
A benefit of “Diathermy” is that it is a painless procedure that can be administered at a clinic. Also, if the treatment relieves pain, so that patients can discontinue pain killers and escape their high cost and side effects.

•Short wave
•Micro wave

PRECAUTIONS:1. Patients with metal implants should not undergo diathermy. 2. Diathermy should not be used in joints that have been replaced with a prosthesis or in those with sensory impairment who may not be able to tell if they are burning.

SIDE EFFECTS:Some patients may experience superficial burns. Since the therapy involves creating heat, care must be taken to avoid burns, particularly in patients whose injuries have caused decreased sensitivity to heat. Also, diathermy may affect pacemaker function. APPLICATIONS:
To treat sports injuries To treat rigid joints and joint pain often
associated with arthritis .To heal these problems by increasing blood flow
to the injured area, controlling swelling and softening joint tissue.

BIO-MEDICAL INSTRUMENTATION
DEFINITION:Biotelemetry is the measurement of biological parameters over distance.e.g. Heart Beats, Blood pressure, Blood Flow etc.
COMPONENTS:A typical biotelemetry system comprises:Sensors appropriate for the particular signals to be monitoredBattery-powered, Patient worn transmittersA Radio Antenna and ReceiverA display unit capable of concurrently presenting information from multiple patient

APPLICATIONS:
1. Patients monitoring in ambulance and in other location away from the hospital.
2. Collection of biological data from home or hospital
3. Isolation of electrically susceptible patient from power line.
