The Biogeoscience Institute (BGS) of the University of Calgary consists of two field stations (RB Miller founded in 1950 and Barrier Lake founded in 1967).

We have an average use of more than 40 people per day year around.

• Our PI’s produce on average 43 refereed publication a year.

• Publication in Science, Nature, PNAS and Transaction /Proceedings of the Royal Society once every 3 years.

• 85% of our PI’s have NSERC, MERC, NSF and NESC grants.

BGS attract a range of principal investigators from around the world not just Alberta; we facilitate 18 to 22 University field

courses each year, we also host 20 small (50 people) conferences and workshops

BGS has run an award-winning STEM junior high and high school program for the last 28 years

• ~1000 advance placement students/year

• Curriculum integrated • Interpret current

scientific research • Collaborative program

development between teachers, schools, Universities and scientists

Professional development and scholarship

• We also provide teacher and student teacher professional development

• ~50 student teacher placements and 20 undergraduate student education projects

• ~100 on and off site workshops for teachers, NGOs and government agencies

We house two long-term mammal studies of more than 40 years

and 10 studies of more than 30 years.
