An Overview on IRAN Biotechnology

The biotechnology sector in Iran has the potential to improve

productivity, health and environmental sustainability, but it

could dramatically change current business models and economic

structures.

Iran’s efforts to transform from natural resource-based economy

towards a knowledge-based economy are reflected in its science,

technology and innovation policies.

Iran has set targets for biotechnology development to 2025,

including becoming the regional leader in biotechnology and

tenth in the world, and increasing its share of the global

biotechnology market to 3 percent from its present estimated

share of around 0.62 percent.

Development Council (BDC)

The BDC was established in 2005 under Vice-presidency for

Science and Technology of Iran as a biotechnology coordinating

body and implementing agency to help the country reach the

targets established by government.

The main reference of policy-making, planning, coordination and

monitoring in the field of biotechnology and bioeconomy.

Main Target: 3 percent of Global biotechnology market at 2025

Based on the water shortage

in specific provinces

(specially arid and semi-arid

zones), Iran tackling with soil

salinity and dust problems.

Right now there is 500,000

Ha of area as dust origins.

Successful experiences in dust stabilization
