FLEXIBLE APPLICATION – SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

Far more than 1000 scientifi c publications with Akern BIA instru-ments in a wide variety of applications emphasize the signifi cance and appreciation of bio-impedance testing. Body composition ana lysis has become an essential tool, not only in science and medicine, but in nutrition counseling, health services, fi tness and personal training. The targeted intervention in metabolic activity does not only require monitoring of fat mass (FM), but of bio-active cell mass (BCM) and its relation to the extracellular mass (ECM). Bio-impedance can also detect an imbalances in hydration giving you guidance in optimizing fl uid therapy, in particular avoiding fl uid overload.

COMFORTABLE TESTING – RESULTS WITHIN SECONDS

A reproducible body position and a uniform body fl uid distribution are indispensable requirements for obtaining reliable BIA results. Testing should be performed in a comfortable supine body position. Adhesive skin electrodes, similar to ECG electrodes, are placed on the hand and foot, connected to the instrument by an electrode cable set. The special BIA electrodes optimize electric conditions in skin conductance. During the test itself a non-susceptible, harmless current is entered into the body for a few seconds only.
