BIM – Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically it uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. The process produces the Building Information Model (also abbreviated BIM), which encompasses building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components. A Building Information Model is a special case of a Facility Information Model.

Presentation Notes
Architectural model, structural model and mechanical model complement each other and combined form the composite model. The use of the intelligence housed within a BIM allows us to see and interact in a new and more intelligent way than how teams using a 2D process do. Note that the Architectural model really is very different from the Structural even if it seems they look the same. The architectural model is a sketch of the building, the structural model is what gets constructed.
