Bill Gates Biography--- TEACHER NOTES Title: Bill Gates Biography Grade(s): 11-12 Subject: Business Technology: Webpage Creation Estimated time for Completion: 8 weeks (based on one class per week) OVERVIEW Sudents will research using the Internet and write a biography on Bill Gates. Final product will be a website and include images, a timeline and interpretation on the 2002 Microsoft antitrust case. PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE: Ability to navigate the web, use a word processor and web authoring software (not necessary but helpful). TEACHER PREP TIME: minimal Preview links in Resources. Preview web authoring software students will be using. Review the Webpage Creation training videos available from Nortel LearniT (www.NortelLearniT.org ). Students can use these videos as needed throughout the project. Request permission from administration to post final projects on the school website. DELIVERABLES: Students will produce a biographical website on Bill Gates. EVALUATION / GRADING: Student's biography on Bill Gates will be evaluated using a checklist. Running short on time? Students could make their websites in teams. Want to take this another step? Have students include a specific timeline and more detailed information on Microsoft from a business point of view. Teacher Tips: Introduce the assignment by discussing the global representation of Microsoft products. Excellent business overview information is available at www.microsoft.com. Here you can also find information about the charity work done by Bill and Melinda Gates. Present this information as an overview to students, and have them include more details in their biography. Many of the dollars donated to charity from the Gates are di rectly given to education.
