This booklet will provide you with information about yourfirst course in college, GE 100 Orientation, which is

designed to introduce you to your new surroundings. GE 100 includes both required and elective sessions andactivities. The booklet includes a list of the sessions youare expected to attend, and summaries of the content ofthose sessions. GE 100 Orientation is very different from

the rest of the classes that you will be taking at Bilkent. Byparticipating in the activities required for this course, you

gain the opportunity to enjoy this new environment andfamiliarize yourself with the university and its many

facilities. GE 100 Orientation has been designed as aprogram that will assist you in a variety of ways as you

begin student life here, with the ultimate purpose ofhelping you reach your goals and expectations during your

studies at Bilkent University.

Besides creating an intellectually stimulating academicenvironment, our goal is to contribute to your personal

development and provide you with the opportunity tobecome an active member of your new community. The

activities included in the orientation program will allow youto make new friends and meet Bilkent administrators and

staff members. You will communicate with people who willsupport you and help you get the best out of your college

years. You will explore the campus, including thedormitories, classrooms, studios, laboratories, sports

centers, and other indoor and outdoor facilities. You will beable join any of the university’s numerous student clubs

GE 100 Üniversite Hayatına Giriş dersi, 11 Eylül 2017Pazartesi günü ODEON adını verdiğimiz ve mezuniyettöreninize de ev sahipliği yapacak amfitiyatrodaki açılıştöreniyle başlayacaktır. Uluslararası öğrencilerimiz içinİngilizce olarak düzenlenen açılış töreni ise yine aynı günBilkent Konser Salonu’nda gerçekleştirilecektir. receive your diploma during graduation. For ourinternational students, an opening ceremony in English

will take place on the same day in the Bilkent ConcertHall. All information you may need about this three-day

program is included in this booklet. In order to completethis course with a passing grade, you will have to follow

the activities included in the option you selected usingthe STARS system after the registration among 13

options offered.

GE 100 Üniversite Hayatına Giriş dersi, tüm öğrencilerin almasıgereken bir kredilik bir derstir. GE 100 dersinden aldığınız harfnotu, bölümünüze başladığınız ilk yarı yılda not çizelgenize(transkript) yazılır.

Why GE 100 Orientation?After successfully completing your studies to this point, you are

now at university. Since this is a new beginning, you might have some questions in mind:

• What is a university?• What does it mean “being a university student”?

• Why are you at Bilkent University?• What kinds of services and opportunities are available

at Bilkent University?• What is campus life like at Bilkent University?

GE 100 Orientation will help you find the answers to these questions.

What are the Rules Regarding GE 100 Orientation,How is it Graded?

• GE 100 Orientation is a one-credit course, which all studentsare required to take during September 11, 12, and 13

• The program includes activities, which are worth 1 or 2 points each.

• Your GE 100 course grade is based on the points youaccumulate by participating in these activities.

How is GE 100 Course Grade Determined?You will receive a letter grade according to your total

accumulated points, as indicated in Table 1 on page 8.

Who Repeats GE 100?Students receiving a grade of F in GE 100 are required to repeat

the course in the following academic year.

Students receiving a grade lower than B, may repeat GE 100 inthe following academic year to improve their CGPA.

When GE 100 is repeated, students start collecting points all over again as the points collected in the previous year will be

reset and the new letter grade replaces the previous letter grade in the CGPA calculation.

Program Options for GE 100 There are 13 program options in this section. Option 13

consists of activities in English and is intended for international students only.

These options were designed so that you can use your timeproductively and also receive a full mark.

Examine the programs in the options and find the option youwould like to take. After you have selected an option, you need

to register it in SRS (Student Review System) athttp://stars.bilkent.edu.tr/srs between Sunday, August 20 at

09:00 and Wednesday, September 6 at 17:30. Use yourstudent ID and the STARS password given to you during

registration to log in to SRS. Once you are in SRS,

• Select “Information” from the SRS main menu;• Select “GE100” from the sub-menu;

• Read the information on the screen and click on the“Select GE100 Option” button;

• Select and record the option of your choice.

Since there are limits on the number of students registering fora given option, there may be no places left in the option you

have chosen. In that case, please select another option.

The activities and dates of the option you have chosen are alsoavailable for viewing in SRS. You can track the activities in which

you have participated as well as the points you have received.

If you do not log in to SRS and select an option during the timewhen the service is available (see dates above), the system will

Introduction to STARS-SRSThis GE 100 activity will introduce you to STARS-SRS (StudentReview System), software which you will be using extensively

throughout your studies at Bilkent. Using SRS, you can track yourGE 100 activity points, register for courses, view your transcript and

GPA (Grade Point Average), determine the courses in yourcurriculum that you must take and pass in order to graduate, learnyour midterm grades, view your attendance records, and find many

more categories of information related to student life.

In order to log in to the SRS system, you must use your student IDnumber and the STARS password that is printed on the document

given to you when you first register to the university. Thatdocument will also contain detailed information

about this GE 100 activity.

The activity must be completed between 9:00 a.m., Monday,September 11, 2017 and 12:00 midnight

Departmental Information SessionsThe aim of this session is to meet the chair and faculty members of

Introduction to STARS-SRSThis GE 100 activity will introduce you to STARS-SRS (StudentReview System), software which you will be using extensively

throughout your studies at Bilkent. Using SRS, you can track yourGE 100 activity points, register for courses, view your transcript and

GPA (Grade Point Average), determine the courses in yourcurriculum that you must take and pass in order to graduate, learnyour midterm grades, view your attendance records, and find many

more categories of information related to student life.

In order to log in to the SRS system, you must use your student IDnumber and the STARS password that is printed on the document

given to you when you first register to the university. Thatdocument will also contain detailed information

about this GE 100 activity.

Bu program, üniversitenin mevcut ulaşım programına ek olarak düzenlenmiş, özellikle ODEON ve Bilkent Konser Salonu’nda gerçekleştirilecek etkinlikler için planlanmıştır.Bunlar dışındaki etkinliklere ulaşım için 73-75 numaralı sayfalardaki programları kullanmanızı öneririz.

The following bus schedule has been designed specifically to match the activities to take place in Odeon, Ahmed Adnan Saygun Center Concert Hall and Bilkent ConcertHalls, in addition to the regular transportation schedule of the university. Please refer to pages 73-75 for the regular schedule.

ODEON'daki programların bitiminde Merkez Kampüs'e ulaşım, ODEON 2 numaralı (sera karşısı) otoparktan sağlanacaktır. Bilkent Konser Salonu’ndaki programlarınbitiminde Tunus, Sıhhiye, Konutkent ve kampüs içi ulaşımı park yerinden sağlanacaktır. Radyo Bilkent Açık Hava Partisi bitiminde Tunus, Sıhhiye, Konutkent (dolmuş durağıönü) ve Doğu Kampüs ulaşımı Merkez Kampüs servis duraklarından sağlanacaktır.

At the end of the programs at Odeon, further bus services will be available from the parking lot #2 (opposite the greenhouse) next to Odeon, for those who would like toreach the Main Campus. At the end of the programs in Bilkent Concert Hall, bus services will be available from the parking lot of the premises, to Tunus, Sıhhiye,

Konutkent and to stops within the campus. At the end of Radio Bilkent Open Air Party, transportation will be available from Main Campus bus stops, to Tunus, Sıhhiye,Konutkent and to the East Campus.
