Biking Route Information From San Francisco to Point Montara From San Francisco, cyclists can take either Highway 1 or Skyline Boulevard to get to the Point Montara Lighthouse House. Highway 1 goes through Devil’s Slide (which is a windy and treacherous 3 mile pass with no shoulder) and is for the experienced rider. Another route is Skyline Boulevard, which takes the rider to Highway 35 through Pacifica and turns into the San Pedro Trail (which is a dirt trail and not ideal for a road bike). The San Pedro Trail turns into McNee State Ranch and then eventually Highway 1. The hostel is on the right-hand side, along Highway 1. Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/9p82h From Point Montara to Pigeon Point The Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel is 28 miles south of the Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel. Take Highway 1 south toward Santa Cruz and turn right onto Pigeon Point Road when you see the lighthouse. Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/j3uan From Pigeon Point to Santa Cruz Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/6xdbv From Santa Cruz to Monterey Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/z944p From Monterey to Cambria For stronger riders, a Big Sur bike tour along the southern Big Sur Coast beckons. More climbs, more stunning views and more epic riding. It's about 50 hilly miles from Ventana Inn or the Big Sur Lodge to the southern end of the Big Sur Coast at Ragged Point. For those with energy left after all those hills (and if time allows) the Big Sur bike tour today can also be extended along the relatively level stretch of coast down to Cambria. If more hills aren't your cup of tea today, we'll also shuttle a cycling group down to Ragged Point at the start of the day and do the leisurely 22 mile bike tour to Cambria, bicyling past Hearst Castle and an elephant seal colony along the way. Cambria features numerous art gallery and other shops. After collecting all cyclists, we'll shuttle about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to Santa Barbara. Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/mtwbe

From San Francisco to the Marin Headlands From San Francisco, traverse the Golden Gate Bridge and take the Alexander Avenue exist and follow signs towards to the Marin Headlands. To get to the hostel, take Danes Drive to Bunker Road. Continue straight onto Bunker Road and then take a left at Lamoraux Drive and then a right on Smiley Street. The hostel is on the right-hand side. Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/b3j6t From San Francisco to Point Reyes Getting to the Point Reyes Hostel from San Francisco is a long and challenging ride that is very popular with avid cyclists. There are also multiple ways to get out to Point Reyes and West Marin. One of the best and most direct routes is to get to Olema, a tiny town in West Marin where two major roads interest, Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Highway 1. To get to Olema from San Francisco there are several directions, allow of which can be found by consulting a Marin biking map. The basic route is over the Golden Gate Bridge and through the towns of Sausalito, Mill Valley, Larkspur, Corte Madera, San Anselmo and Fair Fax. Once in Olema, take the first left onto Bear Valley Road and then the second left onto Limatour road. After six miles on Limatour Road, you will come to an unmarked intersection and take a left. Follow signs to the hostel, which will be on the left hand side. Google Maps Directions: http://g.co/maps/eq3u6 From San Francisco to Sacramento There are many ways to get to Sacramento from San Francisco on a bike. It’s a long trek (almost 90 miles) on two wheels so the best way to get there is via ferry. Pedal to the San Francisco Ferry Building on the Embarcadero and take your bike on the boat to Vallejo. It’s a 26-mile ferry ride and it takes about an hour. Once in Vallejo, there are several bikes routes that will take you through the towns of Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, and Davis. Once you cross the American River on Tower Bridge, you are in Sacramento. After the bridge, take a right onto J Street and a left onto Front Street. Then take another right onto I Street and a left on 5th Street. 5th Street turns right and eventually becomes H Street. The hostel is on the right-hand side.
