A very warm welcome to Term 4 to all of our parents, staff and students! Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to and participated in our amazing school musical. As I mentioned following the final performance, I have seen plenty of school musicals in my time and I am proud to say that Biddabah’s outstanding production of “One in a minion” is the best! The individual student and group performances, sets, lighting, costumes, choreography and organisation from our fabulous staff and P&C was first class. Well done everyone!

I can’t wait until next Monday when I join an excited, yet nervous, band of parents and support crew to cheer on our incredible senior boys football team at the State Final in Sydney. It has been an amazing effort by our team to reach the final 4 out of over 800 schools state wide. We wish them the best of luck and know that they will represent us with pride.

Green plover awards are coming to an end. Term 1, 2018 will see an overhaul of our Wellbeing systems and student recognition processes. After consultation with our senior student leadership group, we have decided to phase out the Green Plover certificates and $1 canteen vouchers. From day 1 next year, students will no longer collect assembly awards towards the Green Plover certificate. This will be replaced by a more equitable and engaging whole school system of reward and recognition which we believe students will find exciting and motivating. More information regarding this and other new innovations and changes for 2018 will be communicated to parents throughout the term. Please note that the current $1 Canteen vouchers and assembly awards will not be able to be redeemed after week 9 this term.

Save the date: On Thursday November 2 we will be celebrating Grandparents Day at Biddabah P.S. with open classrooms followed by a morning tea. This date coincides with the ‘Music - Count us in’ program whereby our students & grandparents will assemble in our school hall to join a satellite link up with schools across the state to sing simultaneously. Our choir will also be performing. More information with specific times and details will be published in our week 3 newsletter along with a note home to all families prior to the day.

Congratulations to our very own Year 6 footballer extraordinaire Lara Gooch who will represent NSW at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide in December. On Friday October 20 there will be an out of uniform day (Gold Coin donation) to support Lara with the extensive costs associated with attending this week long event in South Australia.

His family have travelled 14 000 kilometres this year to enable Connor to participate in a sport that he loves. Through hard work and dedication Connor was also NSW champion and Victorian champion in the 65cc class for 11 to under 12 age division. Congratulations Connor!

Support Plastic Police. The incredibly successful and important Plastic Police program has been shortlisted for a $50,000 Community Entrepreneur Grant through Beyond Bank. If successful the funds will assist them to roll out a regional pilot and establish a social enterprise entity. Plastic Police is down to the final 9 (nationally) and we need the public to vote to maximise its chance of success (and keep the money in the Hunter).

As the inaugural Plastic Police School we’d really appreciate Biddabah’s support by voting via this link and by sharing this

link with others. http://bit.ly/2hdeA63

( It takes less than 10 seconds! )

There is a post on the Plastic Police facebook page also. Public Voting closes next Wednesday 18th. Have a great week!

SPORT NEWS

Boys’ Soccer Team PSSA Finals Biddabah’s Boys’ Soccer Team has made fantastic progress this year, making it to the PSSA finals. The boys will travel to Sydney next Monday to compete against 3 other schools for the PSSA NSW Soccer Championship! It is indeed a mighty achievement to be in the top 4 teams in the state. Biddabah has a good chance of taking the title and making school history. Such an achievement requires strong commitment and continuous training. I would again like to thank Darren Knight for offering his training expertise and assisting the team to progress this far. Win or lose, our soccer team should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Show them what you can do, boys! Mr Harris

CANTEEN

NEWS 2017

The P&C would like to say thank you to the people that generously volunteered in the canteen during the musical, we can’t thank you enough. Welcome back to term four, we hope you all had a lovely break. As always, we will start to see a decline in volunteers due to end of year events. If you can help at all, on any of the days that need volunteers that would be a great help to us and also with keeping the canteen open for the kids. Due to this being Leanne Fong’s last year at Biddabah, the canteen will need a new treasurer for the start of 2018. If you are interested in being the canteen treasurer, please contact me (Mel) or Leanne Fong. The new canteen menu is now in operation. There are a number of changes to the menu, so please ensure that you check for food availability and also for price changes to ensure that your child has the right money.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Tuesday 17, Thursday 19, Tuesday 24 and Friday 27 October. Also, Wednesday 1 and Friday 3 November.

If you would like to do canteen, please contact Mel Aurisch on 0419 294 046. Alternatively, there’s a roster in the canteen where you can write down your name and contact number.

NB Changes made to the canteen roster after Wednesday will not be reflected in the current newsletter.
