DAY 1: Basic Option: Springdale to Temple of Sinawava Return Approximately 20 miles with 900 feet of climbing

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Best Western Abbey Inn (1129 S Bluff Street, St. George, UT 84770) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Once everyone has gathered, you’ll take a 1 hour private shuttle to the desert town of Springdale. Here you will enjoy a picnic of local specialties prepared by your Trek Travel guides. During the picnic your guides will lead you in a short round of introductions, before discussing the rules of bike safety and also offering some specific cycling tips for riding in Utah. Your guides will then ensure you a comfortable fit to your bike, and familiarize you with some of its features. Now Zion awaits! Get on your bike to witness Zion’s iconic monuments—The Watchman, Court of the Patriarchs, Angel’s Landing and Weeping Rock—arriving at the Temple of Sinawava, where the canyon road gives way to the Virgin River. Tonight you and your new travel companions will meet for a drink and a delicious catered barbeque meal on the back deck of the Deep Creek Coffee Company. Take in the incredible surroundings from your private perch above Springdale as you watch the evening light flow across the desert.

DAY 2: Basic Option: Zion Tunnel to Mount Carmel Junction Return Approximately 43 miles with 2,900 feet of climbing

Short Option: Zion Tunnel to Zion Mountain Ranch Return Approximately 25 miles with 1,400 feet of climbing

Avid Option: Zion Tunnel to Coral Pink Sand Dunes Return Approximately 70 miles with 4,800 feet of climbing

This morning, head into town for a breakfast of your choice before a scenic half hour shuttle to the sublime east side of the park. Here the riding begins among sandstone towers, then heads out over pinon and juniper dotted hillsides. The past and present blend on this epic ride—as the steps of geologic time are exposed in the views of the Grand Staircase. Lunch today is at the Buffalo Grill where you can sample homegrown vegetables as you watch bison graze. After lunch freewheel the exhilarating descent through the east entrance of Zion National Park past the Checkerboard Mesa, before riding deep into a surreal sea of petrified sandstone dunes. After a very short shuttle through the Zion Tunnel you’ll emerge on the other side to ride a series of sweeping switchbacks to the canyon floor. This evening Springdale’s restaurants are yours to explore and select a spot for your dinner. Be sure to ask your knowledgeable guides for their recommendations!

DAY 3: Hike: Zion National Park

Hiking offers an intimate way to enjoy Zion through its diverse and expansive trail system, and today is your opportunity to hike the fabled Virgin River Narrows (water level permitting). If you elect to hike the Narrows, Trek Travel will provide a rental package from Zion Adventure Company that includes specially designed water shoes and information for your hike. Or, if you are undaunted by heights you may tackle the awesome Angel’s Landing trail. Otherwise you may choose the challenging Observation Point Trail or a shorter walk to view Weeping Rock or Emerald Pools. Whatever you decide, the day is yours to explore and your guides will be on-hand to help you plan how to best spend your day. There are also local shops and galleries worth exploring, and relaxing poolside at the hotel is also a great choice. On your last evening together, shoot a game of pool with your Trek Travel guides and new friends over margaritas before a great Mexican-inspired dinner at the Bit and Spur, a local favorite.

DAY 4: Basic Option: Springdale to Zion Tunnel Return Approximately 16 miles with 1,400 feet of climbing

On your last morning, you can get up early for a final spin beneath Zion’s unforgettable cliffs. Ride along the Pa’rus bike path and up to the western entrance of the Zion Tunnel. As you head back towards the Lodge, you will be treated to an unforgettable descent into the canyon in morning light and a great view of the Zion Arch, perhaps grabbing a quick brunch on your way back through town before returning to the Lodge to shower and check out. You’ll say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at the Majestic View Lodge. You’ll then shuttle 1 hour and 15 minutes to the St. George Airport (SGU), arriving at approximately 12:15 PM. Please allow adequate connection time for any ongoing travel to accommodate possible traffic delays.

HOW TO GET THERE

Flights | We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into St. George, Utah (SGU). You can contact the St. George Shuttle (800 933 8320, www.StGShuttle.com) to schedule a taxi ride from the airport to downtown St. George for approximately $40, one way. Or you can call for a taxi upon arrival at the airport and should expect to pay a similar amount.

Alternatively, you may fly into Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS) and shuttle approximately 2 hours to St. George. The St. George Shuttle (800 933 8320, www.StGShuttle.com, $36 per person ($62 round-trip) or $49 per person ($88 round-trip) for their Executive Shuttle) will drop you off at the meet location, the Best Western Abbey Inn.

MEETING TIME AND LOCATION

Best Western Abbey Inn| St. George, Utah

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Best Western Abbey Inn (1129 S Bluff Street, St. George, UT 84770) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Once the luggage has been loaded, you will shuttle 1 hour to the desert town of Springdale. Please have your first day’s cycling clothes and riding gear easily accessible, separate from your luggage. After enjoying a picnic lunch, you will change into your biking clothes and begin the gorgeous ride through Zion Canyon.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You

will receive an email a week before the trip start with their names and contact details. If you cannot

reach them, please call our first hotel, Majestic View Lodge (866 772 0665), and leave a message with

your expected arrival time and contact details. We strongly recommend that you make the scheduled

pick-up time, as there are few transport options for the 40 miles to Springdale. However, if this is

not possible and you do need to arrange private transportation, we’d suggest you try Southern Utah

Scenic Tours (888 404 8687, www.UtahScenicTours.com) or a local car rental company to arrange

transportation at your own expense.

DEPARTING TIME AND LOCATION

St. George Airport (SGU) | St. George, Utah

ST. GEORGE, UTAHWhile in St. George, take advantage of the spa treatments at the Green Valley Spa or enjoy a round of golf at one of the local courses. There are also a range of beautiful hiking options in the region close to St. George that are well worth exploring, and we’d recommend a visit to Snow Canyon, a state park located 11 miles northwest of town, in addition to Zion National Park which you’ll visit on your trip. St. George is not a very walkable town, so if you plan to spend time here we recommend that you rent a car to get around. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

Green Valley Spa and Hotel | 1871 W. Canyon View Drive St. | 800 237 1068 | www.GreenValleySpa.com | ~$250

A family-owned spa, Green Valley is a jewel in the desert and boasts the only four-diamond accommodations in southern Utah. Green Valley was founded in 1985 and has become an icon of spa luxury and innovation, earning distinctions such as “Best mid-sized spa in America” by Spa Finder and “Among the best spas in North America” by Condé Nast Traveler.

Green Gate Village | 76 W Tabernacle | 800 350 6999 | www.GreenGateVillage.com | ~$150

The Green Gate Village is a unique collection of houses located on the “historic walk” in old-town St. George. Return to the 1800’s in each of these uniquely decorated, fully restored, upscale pioneer homes offering 15 guest rooms in total. All rooms come with modern amenities and some have fireplaces and kitchenettes. The Green Gate Village also has its own restaurant and general store.

Best Western Abbey Inn | 1129 S Bluff St | 435 652 1234 | www.BWAbbeyInn.com | ~$100

Conveniently located near downtown St. George, the Inn features a full breakfast, outdoor heated pool, exercise room and high speed internet. It is also the pick up point on the first day of your Utah cycling vacation.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

For another kind of vacation fun, we recommend spending some extra time in Las Vegas at the beginning or end of your trip to enjoy this iconic city of American decadence. It is approximately a 2 hour drive from our trip start and finish in St. George, Utah to Las Vegas. There are numerous lodging options in Las Vegas from five-star resorts to small casinos. Signature at MGM Grand | 145 East Harmon Avenue | 877 612 2121 | www.SignatureMGMGrand.com | ~$200

These non-smoking and non-gaming suites are a secluded retreat from the Vegas casinos. Upscale linens, pillow-top beds, swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, and 24-hour concierge denote the level of luxury and service.
