Chennai Auto Campaign:Rationalising Fares
About Bhumi
• Started in 2006, Bhumi has more than 1,000 active volunteers in 7 cities providing supplementary education and Talent Development Programme to 12,000 children at Orphanages and Community Centres
• All the volunteers are under 30 years of age and they are either college students or professionals.
• English, Mathematics, Science, Computer and Mentoring programmes are offered to children at orphanages and community centres during the weekends.
Bhumi & Social Media
• Promotion of our social media on website & ‘The Bhumi Mirror’, our monthly newsletter• Extensive use of Google+ Hangout On Air Webinars (to spread volunteerism among young people across the country)• 25-30% of new volunteers come to know about Bhumi through Facebook and other social media• An active blog maintained by our volunteers
Chennai Auto Campaign
• A petition initiated by Bhumi on change.org to rationalise auto fares in Chennai• Initiated in 4 Jul, 2012• Reached 15,000 by 26 Jun, 2013• Successfully gathered 16,632 supporters in all• RESULT: After a year long campaign, the Tamil Nadu Government revised the fares of auto rickshaws in Chennai on 25 Aug, 2013. A complaint number has also been set up to report errant auto drivers.
