Construction Progress
A Fisher Tank subcontractor works on the installation of one of the Hydrolysate Storage tanks.
A team installs and fits embeds in the walls of the Munitions Demilitarization Building blast-containment area.
Piping work continues in the Control and Support Building.
Workers prepare to lift and install a component of the Nitrogen Processing System.

Munitions Demilitarization Building (MDB)
Inside, electricians are installing the wiring for the Metal Parts Treater (MPT, above left), while outside, ironworkers “fly in” the first of the many housings for the MDB filter banks (above right). The MPT will thermally decontaminate the metal parts of the munitions after the chemical agent has been drained, and the filter banks will clean the air exiting the main processing building. Installation of structural steel also continues on the MDB.

Control and Support Building (CSB)
Deputy Site Project Manager Anthony Reed discusses the project with a group of Eastern Kentucky University honors students in the Control Room (CON, above left). During plant operations, CON operators will observe and control all aspects of the automated processing of the chemical agent munitions. Meanwhile, rolls of some of the 177 miles of wiring to be installed in the CSB are staged for installation (above right).
6
A Partnership for Safe Chemical Weapons Destruction
Utility Building (UB)
The UB is surrounded by the pipe rack that will convey processing chemicals to plant operations activities (above left). Inside the UB, sheet metal workers install air compressor heating, ventilation and air conditioning ductwork (above right). Outside the UB, installation of the Nitrogen Processing System continues.

A Partnership for Safe Chemical Weapons Destruction
Supercritical Water Oxidation Processing Building (SPB)
Project workers started installing insulated siding on the SPB in November 2011. The building should be fully enclosed by the end of the calendar year, allowing the workforce to focus on interior work. Workers prepare insulated panels for installation on the building (above, left) and fly the panels in with a crane workers to install (above, right).
8
A Partnership for Safe Chemical Weapons Destruction
Laboratory Building (Lab)
Laboratory Building construction has been completed and the building has been turned over for systemization activities. Systemization of the building should be complete in 2013.

Systemization at BGCAPP
10
Blue Grass team completed the Systemization Implementation Plan in 2012
− Maps out construction priorities so we complete projects in most efficient manner
− Allows team to prepare for hiring schedule and plan out key milestone dates
Construction team turned over 15 systems and three facilities in 2012
Systemization is four percent complete
Systemization is the process by which BGCAPP workers make sure the procedures, people and the plant itself are prepared to begin chemical weapons destruction operations
