BGC WG Plans (short term)(2005-2006)
• Emphasis on coupled carbon work• CSM1.0—coupled carbon cycle done
– OCMIP’, CASA’ (Fung, Doney et al.)
• CCSM3.0—coupled carbon cycle (T31 x3)– C4MIP-Phase I (land/atmos histfuture)
• CLM-CN (Thornton) spin up done• CASA’ (Fung/Hoffman) spin up started
– Phase II: (land/ocean/atmos)• OCMIP’, CASA’ (Fung, Hoffmann, Doney)• Ocean ecosystem, CLM-CN (Thornton,Doney, Moore)
BGC WG (2006-2009)• Goal of WG meetings:
– Help decide which carbon scenarios will be in next IPCC through lobbying
– Make sure we are set up to do them– Try to analyze runs to be sure that basic ‘physics’ is correct
• CCSM3—add on dust/iron (need computer time)• CCSM3—add on reactive nitrogen (need FV)• CCSM3—add on all aerosols to include climate
feedback• (more ideas in BGC-white paper)• INCITE? T85 versions of CCSM3 simulations
Problems:
• Computer time
• Software engineering help
• PI limitations (developing state of the art codes, analyzing)
