The Community Services Department wishes everyone a waand safe winter season along with the holidays and family gatheings that are celebrated by many of our residents. In addition

all of the traditional celebrations, residents of Beverly Hills w

have numerous opportunities over the winter months and throug

out 2014 to join in local celebrations. For those unaware, the C

will be celebrating its Centennial Year starting on January 2

2014. Numerous activities have been planned (with the invol

ment of many of your fellow neighbors) and will occur, over t

course of the year to celebrate our rst 100 years of incorporatexistence. Many of the Departments traditional activities a

community special events will be themed to highlight the City

Centennial and all residents are encouraged to participate.

The celebration kicks off with a New Years Day Beverly Hioat in the Pasadena Rose Parade that will include a centenntheme. Several lucky residents will be joining Mayor John Miris

on the oat since the City Council decided that some of our re

dents should share in the experience of this once-in-a-lifetim

opportunity. As always, please refer to the Citys website (ww

beverlyhills.org) for updates throughout the year.

Additionally, we are looking to the coming year as a time when

will be celebrating the completion of several capital improvem

projects that the Department is involved in. Staff anticipates t

completion of the Lily Pond Restoration Project thats occurriin front of the iconic Beverly Hills sign within Beverly Garde

Park by early 2014. This is the rst of whats intentioned to

multiple phases along this 22-block long linear park and restorithem to their historical beauty. If you are interested in nding omore about this citizen-initiated effort, or to make a contributi

to this largely privately funded effort, please contact the Friends

Beverly Gardens Park. Additional information can also be fouon their website (www.fobgp.org). Financial contributions towa

this project are tax deductible and are greatly appreciated,

    matter how large or small.

We also will be looking to have the community join us in celebr

ing the grand opening of the new Roxbury Community Center nspring. In addition to the facility, staff also anticipates the co

pletion of various other renovation efforts around the same tim

These projects will improve the parks athletic eld; provide a npublic restroom facility adjacent to the picnic area and replacment of the parks playground equipment.

On behalf of the Community Services Department and City

Beverly Hills, I wish you and your family a safe, productive a

rewarding new year. We hope that you will participate in ma
